Alamo Colleges Nets 2016 Texas Award for Performance Excellence
The Alamo Colleges' District Support Operations has been recognized with
the 2016 Texas Award for Performance Excellence.

The Alamo Colleges' District Support Operations (DSO) has been honored with the 2016 Texas Award for Performance Excellence (TAPE) from the Quality Texas Foundation, which recognizes organizational effectiveness and sustainability. The honor singles out the Alamo Colleges as a role model for achieving sustained performance excellence. 

The Alamo Colleges' DSO comprises 53 departments who serve the five Alamo Colleges. To compete for the TAPE, the 53 teams worked to identify key processes, understand the requirements of their customers and collect and analyze data to improve their processes. 

TAPE recipients are selected based on  performance excellence criteria used at the national level for the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, which awards the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation's highest presidential honor for performance excellence. Criteria include seven main categories: leadership; strategic planning; customer focus; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; workforce focus; operations focus; and results.

"This award is the successful culmination of a nine-year journey," said Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Bruce Leslie. "It reflects the dedication of all our DSO and college teams and the strong leadership of our Board of Trustees, and I congratulate and thank everyone who is making this journey possible for our employees, students and community," he added. "This award informs our stakeholders in a very clear and meaningful way that we are worth investing in, that we are worthy of their trust in our effective and efficient use of their tax monies and tuition and that Alamo Colleges is the best place to obtain a college education."

Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College is one of the Top 25 Community Colleges for Hispanics.


Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College was recently ranked as one of the Top 25 Community Colleges for Hispanics by Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine. The Top 25 Community Colleges for Hispanics list was generated using 2014 enrollment and completion data. According to the magazine, SAC ranks eighth nationally in Hispanic student enrollment at community colleges and 20th nationally in associate degrees awarded to Hispanic students.

"I am extremely proud of this ranking because it is proof that San Antonio College is fulfilling its mission of serving our diverse community," said Dr. Robert Vela, president of San Antonio College. "Our faculty and staff remain dedicated to one goal: student success."

Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education is a national monthly magazine rooted in serving the unique needs of the Hispanic community in higher education. The publication serves a diverse audience, offering editorial coverage about high-profile events, trends, and facts and figures - compiled by a network of accomplished Hispanic and non-Hispanic writers - that impact the country's higher learning institutions.

In 1986, the college helped to found the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and was designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution, a distinction that remains to this day.

Alamo Colleges' ITSA Team One
of 12 National CyberPatriot Finalists

For the fifth time in the last six years, the Alamo Colleges' Alamo Academies Information Technology and Security Academy (ITSA) CyberPatriot team is one of 12 finalists for the Air Force Associates CyperPatriot National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. A total of 3,300 teams from the U.S. and other countries initially competed to reach the national level. The national competition takes place April 10 in Baltimore. The CyberPatriot competition is designed to attract students to careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-including cybersecurity-specific fields.
