Congratulations to the BFCCPS Chorus who sang the National Anthem at the Providence Bruins on March 13th, 2016.  Many thanks to all of the BFCCPS families who joined us for the afternoon to help raise funds for the Parent Advisory Council. Photos from the event can be found here.

Our Grade Seven students will be presenting to the Capstone Panel this week. We wish them all the best of luck during this process and look forward to them kicking off their projects in the next few weeks.    

An early release day is scheduled for Thursday, March 24th followed by no school on Friday, March 25th. A special edition of Ben's Buzz was mailed yesterday with the 2016-2017 School Year Calendar, you can find it here in the event you missed it.

BFCCPS Expansion:

Please Join Us: BFCCPS Expansion Update

We hope that you will please join the Benjamin Franklin Educational Foundation, the BFCCPS Board of Trustees, and the BFCCPS Administration for an exciting update regarding the ongoing BFCCPS Expansion Process. The event will take place on April 5th, 2016 at 7 PM in the Dr. Kevin O'Malley Auditorium. Babysitting will be available in the Art Room for $10 per family for students aged five and up.

Spring Intramural Sports - Wiffle Ball

With Spring comes baseball! In this case, it's WIFFLE BALL!!! All students grades 4 through 8 are welcome to come and learn and enjoy
America's backyard pastime!

Learn to throw a curve, run the bases, and hit a homerun! Signup sheet with requirements to participate is attached here, and available for pick up in Mr. Velky's classroom (Rm. 14).  The cost is $10 per student and begins March 28th. 

Science Club with Mrs. Urkevic

The third and final Science Club of the school year! This session students will become mechanical engineers: designing an animal trap to catch the invasive cane toad. *Classes will be limited to the first 28 students!

Rubik's Cube Club

A Rubik's Cube Club is starting for Grades 5-8 where students can learn to solve a cube, learn new methods, compete in races and even learn new types of cubes.  The class will start on April 1st and end on June 3rd. The club will meet on Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30 and will be supervised by Mr. Ramesh.  Please email Mr. Perna at [email protected] to sign up. 
 
 
BFCCPS Summer Programs:


The Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School is pleased to announce the 2016 Summer Course Offerings! This year's classes are offered by BFCCPS faculty and staff members and Susie Pallis from DramaKids.

The classes are divided by grade level and cover a multitude of topics across a variety of content areas. Classes will be held at BFCCPS' main building as well as the Red Brick School. A class description, date and time is listed for each class. With the exception of private music lessons and an activities fee for the CPR/First Aid class, courses are $100 per week. 

State Mandated Testing Schedule:

Students in Grades 3 through 8 will participate in PARCC Testing beginning in Early May.  Our students in Grades 5 and 8 will also participate in the MCAS Science Assessment.  All of the PARC and MCAS dates have been listed  on the school calendar during the month of May.

 Parent Community Organization:
 
Congratulations to the winner of the Yearbook Cover Art Contest. The first place winner's creation will be featured on the front cover and will also receive a free copy of the yearbook. The second through fourth place winners will be featured on the back cover.  Thank you to everyone that submitted a design for this year's contest!

The Spring Book Fair is just around the corner, mark your calendars for the 1st week of April. We will have an extended evening on Tuesday, April 5th, for Parents to come in and shop.

We are also looking for volunteers to help out with the fair. If you are interested, please email [email protected].  
 
Band Shirt Orders:

As part of the Band and Chorus uniform, a white, 3-button, cotton polo shirt with the BFCCPS Fine and Performing ARTS logo is required. The cost of this shirt is $15.50. This shirt is worn at all concerts, parades, public performances and competitions. If your child already has an older shirt that is in good shape (no stains or rips) you will not be required to repurchase a shirt unless your child needs a larger size. 
 
All new band members that started in October will need to order a uniform shirt unless you have one from a sibling.

Band Shirt Orders are being accepted only through Monday, March 28th.
   
Rally for the Jimmy Fund!  
Please join BFCCPS in the Rally for the Jimmy Fund, a fun Boston Red Sox-themed fundraiser to benefit the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Our team will be participating in honor of Hudson Solder Mrs. Mann's great-nephew and the son of Lexi & Nate Solder who is offensive lineman and a captain of the New England Patriots.

In return for giving $5 or more, you can wear Jeans and Jerseys Monday, April 11, in celebration of Opening Day at Fenway.

We encourage all staff, students, administrators, and parents to participate! Our goal is 100% participation so please check the school website for more details!  
  
STEM Activities :

Framingham State University Campus

Learners of all ages engage in exciting science and engineering explorations hosted on Framingham State University's green, leafy campus.

Activities include hands-on experiences in biology, chemistry, physics, food science, robotics and engineering, featured presentations by FSU faculty and invited scientists, conversations and performances that explore the interaction between science and the arts, and stunning HD planetarium programs.
R eminders from the Front Office:
 
Visitors: All visitors to the school are required to sign in at the Front Office and wear a Visitor's badge. Visitors must be escorted at all times.  Thank you for your help with this!
 
Parking & Parking Lot Safety:  Parking is not allowed in marked reserved spots near the schools main entrance. These spots are reserved for the CCD program staff.

To submit events for the School Calendar or to place building space requests please fill out a Blue Sheet in the front office and submit to the Assistant Head of School, Joe Perna.
