Open Houses Set to Say Goodbye to Boyd and Seipelt
This Spring, Milford Schools will be marking the end of an era for Boyd E. Smith and Seipelt Elementary. Both schools will close their doors after the end of the school year as they prepare to move to their new school buildings over the summer.
The following dates have been set for these open houses for the community.
We welcome back all former students and staff. Please share to help us reach as many as we can!

Community Invited to the "Main Event" on April 17
It is also the end of an era for the Milford Main building. On Sunday, April 17, the community is invited to a district celebration of "Memories of Main" from 1-3 p.m. at Milford High School. The afternoon will start with a program in the auditorium followed by a reception with refreshments in the cafeteria.
In addition to Milford High School choir and band members performing, the contents of a time capsule from 1951 recently discovered, will be shared. The time capsule includes lists of signatures from students who attended Main at that time. The district has published this list on its website
(www.milfordschools.org
) and will share on social media to find and invite these former students to the program. Copies of these original student lists will also be available as mementos. There will also be displays of old yearbooks and historical photos shared by Promont House Museum/Greater Milford Area Historical Society.
The district is encouraging those who attended Milford Main to share their memories on video. We will have our photojournalism students at the program on April 17 to record memories of former students. These video clips will be edited together and will be available online.
After exhausting all options for the 104-year-old building, the Milford Main property was sold by the school district to the City of Milford. The city's offer covered the district's cost for abatement and demolition of the build occurring during March and April.

State of the Schools Presented to Business Community
On Monday, March 21, Dr. Farrell, Milford Superintendent, shared the State of the Schools at the Milford/Miami Township Chamber of Commerce annual "State of Miami Township, the City of Milford and Milford Schools" program at the Miami Township Civic Center. Presentations were made by Jeff Wright, Miami Township Administrator, and Pam Holbrook, Milford's Acting City Manager. A question and answer session followed the presentations.
"We serve 6,700 students and we love it. We are fortunate to be part of such a great community," Dr. Farrell shared with the crowd of local community and business people.
Dr. Farrell gave an overview of the district's academic programs and achievements as well as highlights of the district many services and programs.

In Memory of Nancy Oppito
We are deeply saddened by the news that retired preschool teacher, Nancy Oppito, died peacefully on March 5 surrounded by her family. Nancy retired in 2015 from her teaching career at Milford Preschool.
Nancy dedicated her career to preschool students. She taught in the Milford Preschool program from 1999 - 2015. Prior to that, she was a teacher for the Clermont County Education Service Center, as well as, a preschool instructor for the integrated preschool program at Thomas Wildey School. She also taught at two other nursery schools before coming to Milford.
"Nancy was an awesome teacher and made each one of her students feel special. She lived an amazing life and made this world a better place. I am lucky to have known her," said Jennie Berkley, Milford's Director of Special Education.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Gary; four children and their spouses; 12 grandchildren and countless friends who loved her.

Milford's future educators excelled at the Educators Rising/Future Educators of America State Conference held March 10-11, at Ohio Dominican University with 13 students qualifying for nationals! Two students, Taylor Caldwell and Kelsi Spillman, qualified for nationals in two different events.
"Once again, Milford students did an amazing job and truly represented Milford in a positive way. I am so extremely proud of them for all of their hard work and dedication," shared Jennifer Norsworthy, Teaching Professions Academy teacher and FEA advisor.
The following students will be competing at the national FEA conference to be held June 24-27, on the campus of Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Meadowview Student Starring in Playhouse Production
A Milford student has a lead role in Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's production of To Kill a Mockingbird. Meadowview fifth grader, Brooke Chamberlin, is currently starring as Scout in the play which runs through April 10. Brooke first appeared at the Marx Theatre as Belinda Cratchit in A Christmas Carol. Her other theatre credits include The Music Man (Amaryllis) with Inspiring Arts Group and Annie the Musical (Molly) with Beechmont Players Inc., for which she received an Orchid Award nomination. Brooke also had a national television appearance, singing alongside Kristin Chenoweth on the Anderson Live daytime talk show hosted by CNN's Anderson Cooper. She studies acting and voice with University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music Prep Department.

Milford's School Breakfast Showcased
Milford's Nutrition Department held a special event this morning at Mulberry Elementary to showcase school breakfast and increase daily participation. Four Milford High School athletes were there to interact with students and help them fill out raffle tickets to win a Wilson football autographed by Cincinnati Bengal Giovanni Bernard. They also gave out stickers to students. Free smoothies were also given out at the breakfast.
Congratulations to first grader Angel Moore who won the autographed football! Special thanks to the following student athletes who shared their time this morning: Clay Knecht (football); Morgan Laughlin (water polo and basketball); Abby Swensen (golf); and Logan Holtman (soccer).
Milford provides breakfast every school day at nine different buildings in the district.

Color Guard Continues Undefeated Season
Milford Eagles JV and Varsity Color Guard are both currently undefeated at local shows this season! Drew Steinbrecher is the color guard director for Milford. Varsity Winter Guard travels to Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY on March 19 to compete in the Winter Guard International Mid-South Championships. JV's next competition is the Tristate Marching Arts Championships at Conner High School on March 26.

Drumline Tops Competition
The Milford Winter Drumline performed their show, "Out of the Blue," to a packed gym at the Tristate Marching Arts Competition held at Milford High School on February 27. The drumline, under the direction of John Espy, placed first in class, and also received the highest score of the competition given to any drumline or colorguard! At their competition on March 13, at Kettering Fairmont High School, they finished in 2nd place with a score of 82.6, only .25 behind first place!

Milford Choirs and Band Earn Top Honors at OMEA Event
At the OMEA District 14 Adjudicated Event held on March 4, Milford's music program topped the charts! The Milford Concert Choir (Class B) and Chamber Singers (Class AA), under the direction of Tracy Carpenter, both received Superior ratings, which included Superior ratings in their prepared performances, as well as their Sight Singing. Chamber Singers received a Superior rating from all four judges, while Concert Choir received Superior ratings from three of the judges and an Excellent rating from one judge. This qualifies both groups to move ahead to the state-level of competition.
At the OMEA program, all three Milford High School bands (Concert, Symphonic and Wind Ensemble) received straight Superior ratings from the stage judges. Wind ensemble was one of only two bands to receive straight Superior ratings from every judge! Our high school bands are under the direction of Brian Brown, John Espy, and Jacob Carpenter.

Flight Night Breaks Record
For the past five years, the Milford Athletic Boosters Club "Flight Night" event has been a fun event and successful fundraiser. The event has continued to grow with a sold-out crowd of 615 people at this year's event held on March 10 at the Oasis.
Special thanks to the Boosters and Flight Night Chairperson Todd Moore (pictured with Pete Rose) for their hard work and support of our student athletes.The Boosters anticipate close to $25,000 was raised from this year's event--a record high!

Milford Student Athletes in the News
Milford freshman, Tyler Babinec, made history this season by becoming the first-ever Milford swimmer to capture a district championship (50 freestyle), while winning both the 50 free and 100 breast at the 2016 Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championships.
From there, Babinec competed at the OHSAA State Championships in both events, earning a top finish of 13th
in the 100 breastroke.
Milford High School senior Rachel Berger, a member of the golf, cross country and track & field teams was recently awarded the Evans Scholarship from the Ohio State University. The Chick Evans Scholarship is a full tuition and housing college scholarship for golf caddies. At Milford, Rachel has taken 11 AP courses in high school, including seven during her senior year. She has been a caddie for three years at Terrace Park Country Club, and is also active in Key Club, National Honor Society and Girl Scouts. Her golf accomplishments include being named to the All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference team three times, including twice on the second team. She was also a part of three conference championship teams.

A trio of senior standouts will represent Milford High School and the eastside of Cincinnati when Taylor Foster, Kelly Noll and Hannah Woody suited up for the District 16 Girls Basketball All-Star Game on March 16 at Purcell Marian High School.
