GMO Labeling Bill Passes U.S. House
Legislation supported by MWFPA that would create uniform GMO labeling throughout the United States has passed the U.S. House.

The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015, H.R. 1599, was voted 275 in favor to 150 opposed. It would prevent states from requiring package labels to indicate the presence of genetically modified organisms, or GMOs.  Read more.

FDA Proposes Further Revisions To Nutritional Facts Label

 The comment period for the proposed FDA rule for revision of the nutrition and supplement facts label is being reopened from July 27, 2015 to September 25, 2015 to invite public comment on two consumer studies related to label formats. Read more

Sens. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) have introduced the Voluntary Country of Origin Labeling and Trade Enhancement Act of 2015.  

 

The bill comes after the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled in May that the United States's mandatory labeling rule puts Mexican and Canadian meats at an unfair disadvantage in the U.S. market. Read more here.  

Court Dismisses Challenge To NLRB's Ambush Election Rules

A second district court has rejected a challenge to the NLRB's Ambush Election Rules. In April, Judge Robert L. Pitman of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas rejected a similar challenge brought by the Associated Home Builders of Texas and the National Federation of Independent Businessmen.  Read more.

The MWFPA 2015 Convention and Trade Show First Round Booth Lottery is underway!

Registration is now open for MWFPA members to reserve a booth at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay, WI, December 1-3, 2015.  


August 21, 2015 is the deadline for the lottery, so reserve your space now!  Registration forms can be submitted via email, fax or mail.  No online registration is available at this time.

  

Exhibitors will have access to a wide range of food processing professionals, from presidents of companies, upper management, safety and human resources professionals, environmental managers to front line supervisors.

MWFPA, Chesse Makers Collaborate In Training Program 

MWFPA and the WI Cheese Makers Association are collaborating on the "High Performance Leadership & Management Skills for Dairy and Food Professionals" training program.  Managers and supervisors in food manufacturing and dairy industries will gain management training skills and a certificate under the program.  Read the news release here. Registration is now open for the 2015 Food Safety Preventive Controls Forum sponsored by AFFI and the Midwest Food Processors Association, scheduled for Oct. 19-22 at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wis.
