DEADLINES and OFFICE CLOSINGS
We have passed the 3/15 deadline for filing most C-corporations and S-corporations as  well as the 3/1 deadline for submitting your information to us for LLC's, partnerships, trusts and individual income tax returns. If we don't have your information yet, you can expect that we will file an extension. Contact your Tax Manager if you have any questions or concerns.

Please return your e-file authorizations to us by April 14 for a timely-filed return.

The office will close at 3:00 PM on Monday, April 18 and re-open at 8:00 AM on Thursday, April 21 (we will be closed on April 19 and 20).

REFUND STATUS
For  federal returns, check in with Where's My Refund to track the progress of your return as Received, Refund approved, or Refund sent. You will need your SSN, filing status, and refund amount. Expect to wait up to 21 days after the return was e-filed (or 6 weeks if it was paper-filed) for your refund.

For state returns, the Colorado Dept. of Revenue has announced that taxpayers may experience delays in refunds up to 60 days due to enhanced measures for detecting tax refund fraud. To check the status at Revenue Online, you will need your SSN and the refund amount (or Letter ID from recent correspondence).

NEW SCAM WARNINGS!
Here are some of the latest schemes to watch out for:
  1. Emails that appear to be from the IRS or tax software companies.  They may claim that your return is "ineligible for electronic filing" and direct you to obtain an IP PIN, verify personal information or filing status. Don't click on the links!
  2. Emails (even those from people you know) with documents attached that you are not expecting. We get these a lot at the office, which is one reason we ask you to send us your documents via the portal. Never open attachments unless you are expecting them!
  3. Spoofing emails from a "company officer" requesting payroll and personal information of employees. Seagate, Snapchat, and the publishers of Inc. Magazine and Fast Company all were recently victimized by this scam, releasing thousands of employees' personal information -- which will most likely be used to file fraudulent tax returns. Verify any request for sensitive data and encrypt it before sending!
The IRS will not send you an unsolicited email suggesting you have a refund or that you need to update your account. The IRS will not request any sensitive information online. Click here for more information and how to report scams.

As IRS Commissioner John Koskinen says, "If you are surprised to be hearing from us, then you're not hearing from us."
