The Center offers biofeedback therapy services

typical biofeedback session

This demonstration of a typical biofeedback session includes Caitlin Anderson (L), graduate practicum student and biofeedback intern and Kathe Irvine (R) L.M.S.W., one of the Center's biofeedback clinicians. For more information click image.

The Center is pleased to offer biofeedback therapy servicesa mind-body treatment technique that provides the opportunity for clients to observe their physical responses and use that information to restore their health and well being.

By measuring often unconscious physiological activities of your body, such as heart rate and muscle tension, biofeedback allows you to "see" and "hear" your body's responses to stress, anxiety, trauma, etc. Once your awareness increases, you can learn to change those patterns to reduce physical and psychological symptoms, and to improve your overall health.

Through the use of awareness exercises, guided relaxations, audio recordings, video games, and home practice, individuals learn strategies to improve healthy coping responses.

Redefining Aging, a conversation series
wine and cheese

What would you do if you had more time? Click image for more information and to RSVP.

Join us for a wine and cheese gathering on April 14, 2016, to explore ways to reframe common misconceptions about a universal experience: growing older. Not a class, not a support group, this gathering will launch a conversation series. While pop culture tends to focus only on the losses that come in this time of life, we will consider the significant opportunities.

Participants will discover new ways to express their values, creativity and spirituality - in a joyful and supportive community. The conversations will be expertly facilitated, yet evolve dynamically according to participant interest.
Walk with Mark for counseling assistance

Mark Minear, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist at the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center. In April and May he will be walking across Iowa Hwy 30, from river to river, to raise awareness and funds for mental health counseling assistance. His goal is to raise $10,000 to support vulnerable men and boys who are underinsured, complementing the Center's Women Helping Women fund. Sign up to receive more information, including Mark's daily blog posts.

Dear Reader,

It feels like spring, so it seemed appropriate to change our newsletter banner to the fresh graphics of our signature event, the annual Women Helping Women Luncheon. And how wonderful it is to share the news of our friend and colleague, Mark Minear, a psychologist at the Center who will walk across the state of Iowa to raise awareness and funds. If you check out his itinerary above, you'll see that he's committing to walk more than a marathon each day! We are excited to share more information on both events soon -- please stay tuned.

I can almost breathe in the sweet summer air that Mark will experience as he walks the Lincoln Highway. I already feel the surge of compassion that comes from people joining together to promote renewal and support one another. It is my honor to be in a role to share all this good news with you. Thank you for your interest.

All best,
