Administrator's Corner

Congratulations - we made it to Spring Break! We wish all students, faculty, and staff a restful vacation. Please note that our first day back at school will be Monday, April 4. Be ready to come back strong for a busy spring and rest of the year, including testing, Prom, AP exams, and much more!

Seniors in APEX need to work over the break (see Spivey for specifics), and there are 2 more full days that they can be here to work: April 11 and 19th.

Thanks for your support in recognizing the importance of all standardized tests as they will be used as a gauge for the school performance framework (SPF), so students should come ready to do their best.

Night Out - March 25th

Kicking into Gear with Girls' Soccer
With a new coaching staff and a larger group of girls, TJ's Girls' Soccer is ready to take on the new season.
As TJ rolls into the spring season, many students are starting to look forward to spring break. However, for girls' soccer, the hard work is just beginning. With two unfortunate losses against Littleton and Hinkley High Schools, and many more challenging teams to face, the Lady Spartans are ready to jump into the season with their best foot forward.
Seatbelt Challenge
The Leadership class will be having a seatbelt challenge a few days after spring break. We want it to be a surprise to the students, just to see who is wearing their seat belts & who isn't. We would like to award the students with gift cards & hopefully gas cards. We are kindly asking for donations that can be brought to Erin Thompson. We are doing this challenge to help students be more aware of the dangers of not wearing your seatbelt and how much can be prevented by wearing it. Any money or gift cards donates helps this challenge!

APEX Update
If a senior is making up credits on Apex, they need to be done by 13 May 2016 so everything can be graded in time for senior checkout on 17-18 May.  If they are not finished by checkout, they have until the 19 th to do so;  the final list of student who will be able to participate in the ceremony needs to be with the principal by end of day on Friday the 20 th.

As of 25 March, there will be 32 school days remaining for the seniors.  Ideally, a senior should have completed 81% of all of their apex coursework by then. We will have "senior days on apex" for students who are not done;  those are on 11 April and 19 April.

The district is moving to another vendor next year, and our contract with Apex will expire on 30 June 2016.  Students will lose all progress in their current class if their class is not completely finished.

The only way for them to get more time is to attend summer school.  The Program Manager for the district will send the information to counselors in April, and students must go through their counselors to enroll in summer school.
The Cultural Side of Denver
Upcoming events around the city this Spring are sure to grab the attention of many.
Often, students find themselves with much time and little to do on the weekends. Denver is always booming with different cultural events, from arts to festivals to sports. From long-awaited movies and awe-inspiring performances to attractions and exciting sporting events, students should know that there is plenty to do in the Mile High City. Read more

PARCC Testing is on the Horizon
Please note: participation rates for 2016 testing may impact SPF scores. All students are expected to attend school during these testing periods.
The PARCC online testing will begin at TJ in April.  Our 9th graders will take the PARCC ELA/Math test. The purpose of the state test is to formally assess how students can perform in regards to grade level Common Core Standards. This is also an accountability measure to ensure that schools are adequately preparing students. We will receive the results in much more timely fashion this year. This will allow us to adjust school-wide instructional strategies at the beginning of the year. I am glad to say this is a much better set up than last year.

9th graders will begin testing on April 6th.  We will work on an adjusted schedule so students will still attend all classes during our a djusted schedule.   See the modified schedule below.  All students are expected to attend school during this testing period
Please contact Julie Thibodeau at 720-423-7149 or [email protected]  with any questions.
