The Orchard Golf & Country Club will host the participants of the
2016 Shepherd's Men Run on Saturday, April 2, at 11:15 a.m., for
a one hour meet and greet at the clubhouse. The club is inviting everyone in the community to cheer these men on as they continue their 1,500 mile run from Boston to Atlanta to raise $1 million in funds to help save 22 veterans' lives per day.

Shepherd's Men is a fundraising group comprised of 14 men who will make the run together, with the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and civilian population represented in their numbers. Each member of the group will complete the journey wearing a flak vest with 22 pounds of added weight and running at least 22 kilometers per day. The number 22 is symbolic and represents the average number of suicides that occur among United States veterans each day.

There is no charge to attend, but a reservation is required for entry into The Orchard gate. A buffet lunch will be served free to all active duty military and will be available at a cost of $12 per person to all other attendees. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 706-754-3156.

Situated next to the Chattahoochee National Forest at the base of the Appalachian Mountains, The Orchard Golf & Country Club's 18-hole championship course was designed by Golf Course Architect Dan Maples and features Bermuda fairways and Bentgrass greens. The club is open six days a week and welcomes individual, family, and corporate play. For more information, please call the club at 706-754-3156.

Holy Week Gatherings in Cornelia
Some of the many Holy Week Gatherings/Luncheons to be held in the Cornelia area include the First Baptist Church, the First Presbyterian Church, and Cornelia United Methodist Church. Replacing the traditional Lenten Luncheons, each service will start at noon in the respective church's sanctuary. Following a brief time of music, a speaker will deliver a Holy Week Devotional for the day. After the devotional, everyone is invited to stay for a light lunch provided by each church at 12:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Halls.
"Help make this new event a success by inviting friends, family and co-workers to these services," said Eric Spivey, pastor, First Baptist Church of Cornelia. A love offering will be taken. Mark your calendars now for the dates/places below:

* Monday, March 21, First Baptist Church, Cornelia.
Speaker: Dr. Charles Smith, pastor, Madison Baptist Church

* Wednesday, March 23, Cornelia United Methodist Church. Speaker: Dr. Jay Hughes, pastor

* Friday, March 25, First Presbyterian Church, Cornelia.
Speaker: Rev. Jason Edwards, pastor

"There is something sacred about walking through Holy Week together--not only with my church--but even more with the broader Church and community," explained Spivey. "It forces me to look beyond my needs to see the world for which Jesus died and rose again."
