For the first time this year, New Orleans will join the French worldwide culinary experience,
Goût de France/Good France.
From March 22-26, Café Degas and Purloo will present special menus highlighting the excellence of
French cuisine and local, Louisiana ingredients.
For the "Mois de la Francophonie" (Francophone Month) in March, the French Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and International Development, on the initiative of French chef Alain Ducasse, is showcasing the
French art de vivre around the world.
More than 1,500 chefs on 5 continents will prepare a special menu inspired by their expertise: French
cuisine.
"New Orleans' cuisine is known around the world, especially for its French roots," says Consul General
Grégor Trumel, "Louisiana is the Francophone hub of the United States, and it should be represented
alongside the stars of French cuisine at Goût de France."
For one week in March, Chef Laurent Rochereux of Café Degas and Chef Ryan Hughes at Purloo will be
presenting a 3-course menu featuring the local produce and French heritage of Louisiana.
Each recipe in Goût de France/Good France is prepared with less fat, sugar and salt, with a concern for
"good food", healthy-eating and the environment.
"Everything on the menu for Goût de France is prepared with attention to eating healthy and local," says
Chef Ryan Hughes of Purloo, "I think restaurant guests will be impressed by how fresh ingredients from
Louisiana really shine in traditional French cuisine."
"French is a part of life in Louisiana, and there are so many talented chefs trained in the art of French
cuisine in New Orleans. Chef Ryan at Purloo perfected his skills right here at Café Degas!" said Chef
Laurent Rochereux of Café Degas, "For our thirtieth anniversary year, we are excited to participate with
so many amazing chefs around the world."
During Goût de France/Good France, a portion of the proceeds will go to local non-profit organizations promoting health and the environment. Joining in this worldwide initiative, Café Degas and Purloo will donate 5% of their proceeds to Slow Food and Sankofa. For more information on Goût de France/Good France and participating restaurants, visit our website: http://consulfrance-nouvelleorleans.org/Gout-de-France-Good-France-2016-in.html For press and media inquiries, contact Meagen Moreland-Taliancich, Communications Attachée, Consulate General of France in Louisiana, by email (mm.cgnola@gmail.com) or phone (504-430-4273).

Heavy rains hit hard these last couple weeks. Our North Shore farmers experienced extreme weather that posed a serious threat. Crops, equipment, and homes were damaged. Fortunately, our vendors are fighting to make a speedy recovery and are excited to be back at market. Come to market this week to show the strength of our community. Let's rally behind the farmers market vendors that we care so much about!

Farmers Market Quiche
We've chosen a few of our favorite ingredients, but feel free to add whatever veggies you'd like to this scrumptious farmers market quiche!
I served this quiche crustless but feel free to use a crust if you desire.
Ingredients
5 Tbsp. butter, separated into tablespoons
1 lb. mushrooms of choice (button, cremini, shitaake, king oyster, mix it up!)
½ bunch collard greens, stalks removed, roughly chopped
Heat a large pan over medium heat. Melt 1-2 tablespoons butter and add mushrooms in a single layer. Feel free to add ground pepper but do not add salt yet, it will draw out too much moisture.
Let mushrooms brown 3-4 minutes, toss, let brown for another 3-4 minutes. If not all the mushrooms fit in the first batch push them to the side, add another tablespoon butter and add another single layer. Continue until all mushrooms are brown. Remove and set aside.
Add remaining butter and garlic. Cook for 1 minute.
Add collard greens and toss.
Add vegetable stock or water and cover. Let collards cook until moisture has almost completely reduced. Check for tenderness, if still tough add more water, cover, and cook. Add swiss chard and cook for 2-3 minutes or until wilted. Season liberally with salt and pepper.
Beat eggs and season with salt and pepper (When you think you've added enough pepper, add more. I promise it is delicious with the cheese, greens, and mushrooms). Butter a baking dish.
Layer mushrooms, greens and ¾ of the cheese.
Slowly pour egg over. Do not go past ¼ inch from top of baking dish.
Top with remaining cheese and diced tomato.
Bake for 35 minutes. I recommend placing a baking sheet under your baking dish in case there is any spilling or overflow.
The location is 520 Old Spanish Trail in Slidell. The center will be open Monday through Saturday, 8:00am to 6:00pm and from 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday.

An Architect and His City: Henry Howard's New Orleans, 1837-1884
One of the nineteenth century's most prolific architects but also, until recently, one of the most historically elusive, Henry Howard (1818-1884) called New Orleans home for nearly fifty years. During this time, the Irish native established his career, left an indelible mark on the landscape of Louisiana, and witnessed the growth of one of America's greatest cities. An Architect and His City: Henry Howard's New Orleans, 1837-1884, examines the city of New Orleans as experienced by Howard.
When Howard arrived in New Orleans in 1837, the city was the third largest in America and faced an economic crisis and a Yellow Fever epidemic. Over the next several decades, Howard's career was shaded by the events of his city: from the boom of the antebellum years, through the Civil War, to the challenges of Reconstruction and beyond.
A companion to the new book Henry Howard: Louisiana's Architect (THNOC and Princeton Architectural Press, 2015),this exhibition will give special consideration to the city's architecture, urban growth, and municipal improvements. Featured items include maps, rare books, and manuscripts as well as historical and contemporary photographs, including images by Robert S. Brantley, the architectural photographer and author of the newly released Howard book.
An Architect and His City: Henry Howard's New Orleans, 1837-1884 Through-April 3, 2016 Gallery hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Tickets are good for any night of the current season that the event is open. There is no refund due to rain, power outages, and other unforeseen conditions.

American children's author and illustrator, Tomie dePaola, said, "Reading is important, because if you can read, you can learn anything about everything and everything about anything." What better way to instill a love of reading to a child than to read to them everyday.

As spring season unfolds in New Orleans, professional and amateur photographers will hit the streets and festival grounds to document the city's diverse culture. The conversation on March 22 will explore ways that both sides of the camera can benefit from this exchange.
938 Lafayette St at the Corner of O'Keefe in the New Orleans Central Business District.
As a photographer living in the greatest city in the world, there is no place I would rather be. I have been documenting the unique music and culture of New Orleans since I permanently moved here in the fall of 2000. Originally from Lafayette, I am no stranger to unique cultures and the power they bring to the storyline of a unique city. As a photographer in New Orleans I feel a strong sense of responsibility with the images I make and the relationships I make. I need to make sure I show the music, the street, the Indians and the clubs in the best light and make sure I give back in any way I can.
In this age of a rapidly evolving technology that allows us to document every moment and minute of our lives I feel it is the photographers and culture bearers of this great city to form stronger relationships so that we can BOTH tell the story of this great city in a way that fosters trust, respect, and responsibility. That is why I, along with Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and Louisiana Cultural Vistas Magazine, have put together a panel discussion with New Orleans photographers and culture bearers to discuss these topics and more. I am asking YOU the informed and passionate public to discuss how we as a community of artists and documenters can move forward, in a way unprecedented, to work as a team united to foster new relationships in creating a trusted dialogue so that photographers can share images, and artists can use these images without any misunderstanding.
I have invited photographers Eric Waters and Erika Goldring, along with Big Chief Juan Pardo and musician and producer Voice Monet to begin the discussion...and you the public to help us bring some action to the ideas. This discussion will be moderated by Vice President of Content at the LEH, Brian Boyles.
Get your green on post-St.-Patrick's with Life City and Recirculating Farms! We'll have special spring cocktails, farm-fresh snacks and more in our flower-filled Growing Local NOLA garden, 1750 Robert C. Blakes, Sr. Dr. (formerly Carondelet St.) New Orleans LA 70130 . Keith Lee Morris - TRAVELERS REST
Please join us for a reading and signing with author Keith Lee Morris featuring his new dystopian thriller, TRAVELERS REST, a chilling fable about a family marooned in a snowbound town whose grievous history intrudes on the dreamlike present.
The Addisons-Julia and Tonio, ten-year-old Dewey, and derelict Uncle Robbie-are driving home, cross-country, after collecting Robbie from yet another trip to rehab. When a terrifying blizzard strikes outside the town of Good Night, Idaho, they seek refuge in the town at the Travelers Rest, a formerly opulent but now crumbling and eerie hotel where the physical laws of the universe are bent.
Once inside the hotel, the family is separated. As Julia and Tonio drift through the maze of the hotel's spectral interiors, struggling to make sense of the building's alluring powers, Dewey ventures outward to a secret-filled diner across the street. Meanwhile, a desperate Robbie quickly succumbs to his old vices, drifting ever further from the ones who love him most. With each passing hour, dreams and memories blur, tearing a hole in the fabric of our perceived reality and leaving the Addisons in a ceaseless search for one another. At each turn a mysterious force prevents them from reuniting, until at last Julia is faced with an impossible choice. Can this mother save her family from the fate of becoming Souvenirs-those citizens trapped forever in magnetic Good Night-or, worse, from disappearing entirely?
With the fearsome intensity of a ghost story, the magical spark of a fairy tale, and the emotional depth of the finest family sagas, Keith Lee Morris takes us on a journey beyond the realm of the known. Featuring prose as dizzyingly beautiful as the mystical world Morris creates, Travelers Rest is both a mind-altering meditation on the nature of consciousness and a heartbreaking story of a family on the brink of survival.
Keith Lee Morris is the author of two previous novels, The Greyhound God and The Dart League King. His short stories have been published in New Stories from the South, Tin House, A Public Space, New England Review, and Southern Review, which awarded him its Eudora Welty Prize in fiction. Morris lives in South Carolina, where he is a professor of creative writing at Clemson University.

Bayou Maharajah explores the life and music of New Orleans piano legend James Booker, the man Dr. John described as "the best black, gay, one-eyed junkie piano genius New Orleans has ever produced."
A brilliant pianist, Booker's eccentricities and showmanship belied a life of struggle, prejudice, and isolation. A wild genius with a style that combined elements of rhythm-and-blues, jazz, ragtime and classical music, he gained the nicknames "Piano Prince of New Orleans", "Black Liberace", and "Bayou Maharajah". Illustrated with never-before-seen concert footage, rare personal photos and exclusive interviews, the film paints a compelling portrait of this overlooked genius.
The film will begin at 6pm in the Patrick F. Taylor Library, runs 90 minutes, and will be immediately followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Lily Keber.

WILLIE: The Life of Willie Morris.
A fresh look at the life of a revered southern writer and editor
In 2000, readers voted Willie Morris (1934-1999) Mississippi's favorite nonfiction author of the millennium. After conducting over fifty interviews and combing through over eighty boxes of papers in the archives at the University of Mississippi, many of which had never been seen before by researchers, Teresa Nicholas provides new perspectives on a Mississippi writer and editor who changed journalism and redefined what being southern could mean. More than fifty photographs--some published here for the first time, including several by renowned photographer David Rae Morris--enhance the exploration.
From an early age, Willie demonstrated a talent for words. At the University of Texas at Austin, he became a controversial editor of the Daily Texan. He later studied history as a Rhodes Scholar in Oxford, England, but by 1960 he was back in Austin, working as editor for the highly regarded Texas Observer. In 1967 Willie became the youngest editor of the nation's oldest magazine, Harper's. His autobiography, North Toward Home, achieved critical as well as artistic success, and it would continue to inspire legions of readers for decades to come.
In the final tally, he published hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles, along with twenty-three books. His work covered the gamut from fiction to nonfiction, for both adults and children, often touching on the personal as well as the historical and the topical, and always presented in his lyrical prose. In 1980, he returned to his home state as writer-in-residence at the University of Mississippi. In 1990, he married his editor at the University Press of Mississippi, JoAnne Prichard, and they made a home in Jackson. With his broad knowledge of history, his sensitivity, and his bone-deep understanding of the South, he became a celebrated spokesman for and interpreter of the place he loved.
Teresa Nicholas, Jackson, Mississippi, was born and raised in Yazoo City. She worked in book publishing in New York City for twenty-five years. In 2011 she published a memoir, Buryin' Daddy: Putting My Lebanese, Catholic, Southern Baptist Childhood to Rest, which was nominated by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters for its nonfiction award.

The Glass Menagerie marked a crucial turning point in American theatre, and forever changed the life of its then unknown author. Williams' elegiac masterpiece brought a radical new lyricism to Broadway the tragedy, fragility, and tenderness of this "memory play" has made it one of America's most powerful, timeless, and compelling works of theatre. Renowned for its vivid characters, exquisitely written dialogue, and absorbing story, The Glass Menagerie promises to move, to entrance, and to dazzle.

Dine with Mosquito Supper Club
Two charming hosts (and fantastic cooks) serve up authentic Cajun food, family-style.
Martin brings her family's food from Chauvin, LA, to the city in a family-style setting. Platters are set down on the table, and everyone digs in. It's a dining style New Orleanians relate to, whether they're from Irish, German, Italian, or Afro-Caribbean families. Cajun music fills the dining room (limited seating, reservations only) as guests enjoy a five-plus course meal.
A sample menu, this one for fall, is quintessentially Cajun: doughy "Lagniappe Rolls" with Steen's Butter (as if butter isn't decadent enough, this one is laced with cane syrup from Abbeville, LA); crispy eggplant fritters; gumbo with shrimp, crab, and okra; cucumber and tomato salad with Steen's vinaigrette; stuffed Lousiana crabs; and blackberry dumplings with "Pop Rouge" ice cream for dessert. (Local folk of a certain age may remember the old "Pop Rouge" strawberry/cream soda from Lafayette.)
This fall, Mosquito Supper Club commences on Thursday nights at 810 N. Rampart Street, a light-filled, second-story space in the French Quarter with a can't-beat-it view of Armstrong Park. Dinner begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. Go to their site's reservations page to book your seats... and meet your adopted Cajun family.
Extra helping: Michot and Martin also run Curious Oyster Company in St. Roch Market, open daily, if you can't make it to a supper club event.
Sherman Bernard, Recipient of Offbeat Magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award, leads his Ole Man River Band of exceptional New Orleans musicians. They will perform an assortment of 1950s, 60s Rhythm and Blues and Rock and Roll. Nothing but New Orleans fun.
Where: Pavilion of the Two Sisters in the Botanical Garden Hours: Gates open at 5pm; music begins at 6pm Parking: There is a free parking lot across the street from the Botanical Garden. Admission: $10/person

Announces Call for Entries
For Third Annual "Art of the Book" Competition
NEW ORLEANS - Submissions for the Art of the Book, a local competition in which recycled materials are interpreted into books, are due by 6 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016 at IDIYA, a Maker Space studio located at 2723 S. Broad Street in New Orleans.

LAUNCH PT-305!
Just four combat-veteran WWII patrol-torpedo boats still exist in the United States; of those, only one is fully restored, equipped with original-model engines, and ready to launch: PT-305-now wrapping up a $3.3 million restoration at The National WWII Museum. Her next mission will see PT-305 in a custom-built boathouse on Lake Pontchartrain, where visitors will be able to climb aboard and even take a ride, and where PT-305 will become the Museum's most interactive macro-artifact and teaching tool.
To help get PT-305 to her new home, the Museum is launching a grassroots Kickstarter campaign on March 8 for a limited, 30-day period. According to Kickstarter's model, we keep the pledges that come in only when we reach our goal-so connecting with a broad audience quickly is an essential part of our strategy. That's why we're counting on you, our partner and friend, to help us spread the word.
To make it easier for you to share the news with your employees, partners, and friends, we've compiled some sample messages and share graphics. Any of these messages can be modified to suit your company's style and tone-feel free to make them your own! Then please post them in your social media accounts to help get the word out about #launch305.

THANK YOU for your help in this important campaign. It's truly an all-hands-on-deck effort-and we're so glad to have you on our crew!
This company is very proud to be a supporter of The National WWII Museum and its work to connect today's generations with the story of World War II-work that is evolving all the time, and that right now is reaching an exciting new level of interactivity.
After a decade of restoration work, the Museum is finishing up its most ambitious artifact restoration ever: US Navy patrol-torpedo boat PT-305. After years as the highlight of the Museum's restoration pavilion, PT-305 is the world's only combat-veteran PT boat to be fully restored and fully operational, and will soon begin a new chapter as an extraordinary new Museum attraction. In a custom-built boathouse on the edge of Lake Pontchartrain, visitors will be able to tour the boat and even take a ride on PT-305-the US Navy's fastest-model vessel in World War II.
But first, PT-305 needs your support: To help return the boat to water, the Museum is asking donors across the country to pitch in for PT-305 on crowdfunding site Kickstarter.com. We hope you will choose to donate! Please visit the website today to learn more about PT-305 and make a donation if you can. Then spread the word about #launch305 as far and wide as you can. Let's help launch PT-305!
Thank you so much for supporting this important cause.

With tempting aromas of dark cherry, blackberry and spice, Zin-phomaniac is a complex, full-bodied wine with juicy, approachable flavors of ripe blue-purple fruit and dark semi-sweet chocolate. A kiss of vanilla and a touch of brown baking spice add depth to the long, satisfying mouthfeel.
Love New Orleans & She'll Love You Back.
