With Labour Day just around the corner, I find myself, yet again, sitting in an airport wondering how I am going to manage all that is going to happen in the next few weeks.
I am waking up thinking about September and there is a slight burning sensation in my stomach.
There will be new lesson plans, new students, new committees, new responsibilities and a whole host of other things that I had hoped to dedicate more time and attention over the summer.
Of course, these are only the responsibilities connected to King's. In addition, I have responsibilities at church and a list of things that require attention at home.
Does this sound familiar?
I am grateful that we are reminded over and over again in scripture of God's great and abiding love.I am heartened by the reminder that God is ever close to those who call on Him. We read in Luke's Gospel (12:22-31)
"Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
"Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you-you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well."
In the insanity which will inevitably happen and inevitably pass, do not forget to pray and do not forget to breathe. Even in the midst of the storm, God is there.
And if throwing yourself with reckless abandon into the arms of God, seems a bit frightening, you might want to spend a moment or two with a little something that will bring you back to a much simpler time.
There have been significant changes in the Office of Campus Ministry in the last few weeks. Both Maija Wilson and Lisa Caeiro have begun maternity leave and Natalie Hleba and Allison Marsman have been contracted to assume their positions. They will both be contributing to the newsletter over the next several months. In addition, Deacon Bob Hartman has joined us in our work.
Our website will be relaunched later this fall, and will provide you with a great deal of information on many of things that will be happening at King's this year. I hope that you will be able to join us.
