VIP Volunteer
Yes, that’s what it took Second Harvest Food Bank—an army of volunteers—to organize and carry out our monthly USDA food distribution, which helped over 1,700 families who are struggling to put food on their tables.
Our compassionate and dedicated volunteers came through once again to help their neighbors in need—72 volunteers donating more than 370 hours of their valuable time to make this USDA food distribution a reality. From packing the bags that we give to clients, to directing traffic, to registering families, to answering calls to our community food hotline. All of them had one goal in mind: to feed families.
The impact of our volunteers is well appreciated by those 1,700 families who drove through our food line that cold Monday morning to receive a bag of produce and a bag of USDA commodities. That totals 80,000 pounds of food! This food was well-received by the community, since the last El Nino storm has threatened to push back the beginning of the employment season for many farm workers.
SHFB and the community continues to be grateful for the extra help on deck. We invite you to continue supporting us to ensure that no one goes hungry in our county. You can make a difference—become a volunteer! Or a donor! Or an advocate!
We need advocates, community organizers, maintenance helpers, office clerks, and more. Our volunteer opportunities are primarily in the mornings, but we can accommodate you throughout the day or even on our community Saturday volunteer days, which happen once a month.
