Clothesline Project Special Guest Speaker:
Marilyn Van Derbur
Marilyn Van Derbur, author of the eye opening memoir,  Miss America by Day, will be providing the keynote address at this semester's Clothesline Project. Crowned Miss America during her college days, Marilyn is best known now as a strong advocate for campaigns that focus on preventing sexual violence and for her commitment to raising awareness of this issue.

As a survivor of sexual abuse, she uses her story to connect with other survivors. She has become a national resource of knowledge and motivation for change. Marilyn will be speaking on healing from child sexual abuse and sexual abuse education and awareness on April 5 at 6:30 PM in the Grande Ballroom.

The Clothesline Project is a grassroots campaign started in 1990 to increase awareness and education of sexual violence. It is a national campaign held locally that gives anyone the opportunity to express their emotions in a safe environment by decorating a t-shirt to display on a clothesline for all to see. There are different colored shirts, all of which are meant to represent a different form of violence. The t-shirts are not censored, and for that reason emotions are revealed and may carry intense language. We do ask that those who attend do so in a respectful manner. The Clothesline Project is an incredibly important and moving initiative that empowers those that participate.

Club Corner
Women of UVU Club
Why women? We've heard your many questions and it is time we try to answer them for you. What is the purpose of having a "Women of UVU Club?"

The mission of the Women of UVU club is to help all women feel a sense of belonging, through various volunteer opportunities and activities. Throughout the year, the Women of UVU club appears at, hosts, and sponsors many volunteer and fundraising events to benefit the quality of life for others, especially our fellow women.

Women are vastly underrepresented in the workforce and in the higher educational system. Offering a club of support, opportunities, networking possibilities, and friendship is what drives us. The Women of UVU Club is dedicated to providing empowerment opportunities through educational, leadership, and service programs.

The Women of UVU Club works closely with other organizations on campus like the Women's Success Center and the Wee Care Center to assist and motivate women in their education.

Motivational Quote
"All emotions, even those that are suppressed and unexpressed, have physical effects. Unexpressed emotions tend to stay in the body like small ticking time bombs-they are illnesses in incubation."
