Coming soon: Safe Routes for Seniors
Over one-third  of older adults in Georgia have sedentary lifestyles. So it's no surprise that Georgia's seniors rank near the bottom nationally in health indicators.
Man walking with a cane crosses the street at a safe location

Our new Safe Routes for Seniors program seeks to change that.

To overcome barriers to walking, we'll help older adults identify hazards and successfully advocate for pedestrian-friendly changes in their communities.   We'll also help people create walking groups and provide incentives that encourage people to walk more.

We're grateful to Kaiser Permanente for making this program possible.
New walking and bicycling plan: Public co mment through Jan 15
Walk Bike Thrive! - the Atlanta Regional Commission's new w alking and bicycling plan is online for public comment.

Sally Flocks and others at PEDS participated actively in meetings as ARC worked with transportation professionals at ALTA to develop the plan.

The plan is a  big step forward from the plan developed in 2007.
It details strategies to help build walk-friendly and bike-friendly communities and make walking and bicycling safe and convenient ways to travel.

The plan also includes the region's first comprehensive vision for a connected regional trail network.

You can submit comments on the plan through January 15th, 2016. Please send them to [email protected].
