Developmental Foundations of School Readiness for Infants and Toddlers 

 
A new Research to Practice report, Developmental Foundations of School Readiness for Infants and Toddlers (February 2016), summarizes the research on development during the first 3 years of life, highlights areas that are foundational for school readiness and later school success, and discusses how providers can support the development of school readiness in infants and toddlers. It can be used by programs to inform their practices and policies, and to help them think about the outcomes they want to focus on improving most for young children.

Factors Associated with Mental, Behavioral and Development Disorders in Early Childhood  

 
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published a report that uses recent national data to look at the associations between socio-demographic factors and early childhood mental, behavioral, and developmental disorders (MBDDs). The factors found to be most strongly associated with MBDDs were fair or poor parental mental health, difficulty getting by on the family's income, child care problems among parents of children aged 2-3 years, and lacking a medical home.

March 24 Webinar--Poverty, Health Equity and Young Children:  Making the Link Between Early Childhood Systems Building and Poverty Policy.  

 
Experts across the political spectrum have recently focused their attention on the importance of addressing poverty in the earliest years of life. The Learning Collaborative on Health Equity and Young Children will host a webinar on child poverty in the United States and why poverty experts are focusing in on families and young children. Speakers include Charles Bruner of the Child and Family Policy Center; Sherri Killins, director of state systems alignment and integration for the BUILD Initiative; Maxine Hayes, former state health officer for the Washington State Department of Health; and John Lawrence Aber, professor at New York University.
