PENN JILLETTE MAGIC PODCASTS

Penn's Sunday School podcast is not for everyone but if you are an adult, into magic and, most importantly, into magic show logistics, it may be worth a listen.

Penn Jillette's descriptions of behind the scenes actions at the Las Vegas Penn & Teller show on his weekly podcast, Penn's Sunday School, makes me smile.

In his latest episode, Penn recounted an experience from a recent show at the Rio Resort and Casino's Penn & Teller Theater.  We won't ruin the story for you but it has to do with a specially gimmicked jacket that resulted in him being fooled twice unbeknownst to the audience.  He recounted his internal dialogue as he tried to figure out what was happening whilst he was on stage performing a different effect. An incredible story and if you love logistics, you too will smile as you listen.

DISCLAIMER: Don't be taken in by the title. This IS Penn Jillette at his uncensored atheistic best. As we mentioned, his podcast has adult language and themes so we do not recommend it for our younger readers or those who are easily offended. For those of us with very thick skin, it is a wonderful chance to hear about the preparations and logistics of a big time magic show.

You can subscribe to the podcast through Apple's iTunes store or directly through  Penn's Sunday School here. (http://pennsundayschool.com/)

FOX ORDERS HOUDINI-DOYLE SCI-FI SERIES

Fox Television has ordered ten episodes of a fictional supernatural crime series titled Houdini and Doyle. The series is loosely based on the real-life friendship between master magician Harry Houdini and Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

The two characters will join forces to investigate crimes with a supernatural slant. Houdini is the debunker and Doyle believes in spooks - sort of a 19th Century X-Files take on two great historical figures. We will keep you apprised as we learn more.

Hello, Everyone,

We had nine very talented folks in attendance last Friday: Virginia O., Don C., Kevin R., Mike G. & Pattie G., Tom B., Steve P. & his son Scott P. and me. Tom brought with him a 70-year old (or older) hand-held portable illusion called a Bengal Net. He demonstrated and performed it by placing a pepper shaker in it and the shaker abruptly vanished - Very COOL!

Kevin demonstrated and taught Don England's 2-by-2 Faros. He performed a nice pen-through-dollar bill effect which was very nicely done. He also expertly performed Marlo's Estimation Aces

Steven performed a nicely done Ambitious Card routine. He also used origami techniques to fashion a ring made from a dollar bill. We took the waitress' tips, rolled them into a cylinder, and placed it through the dollar bill ring. He also executed a great gambling routine.

All-in-all, I would say we all had a very good time. We will meet for lunch Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at Sweet Tomatoes, off Walnut Street in Cary Crossroads. Hope to see you all on Friday!
