In order to be eligible for either cash prize, Bright winners must submit a W9 that includes a valid Federal Employee Identification Number (FEIN). Award recipients will need to spend entire cash award within one year, and will be required to submit receipts and final report showing how funds were spent. Pre-Seed Workshop

Bring your idea from concept to concrete plan in just two days. The Pre-Seed Workshop is designed to help entrepreneurs determine the commercial merit of a high-tech idea, and move it toward commercialization.
With expert opinions, investor panels, and a fast-paced team setting, the Pre-Seed Workshop is a risk-free arena to test the marketability of your idea.
This year, Pre-Seed Workshop will run two concurrent tracks to foster ideas in both the life sciences and advanced manufacturing sectors. Life sciences teams will participate on May 17, 18 and 25, and advanced manufacturing teams will participate on May 17, 19 and 26.

 The CBLS celebrated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Month in March with the Buffalo Public Schools (BPS). This initiative raises awareness about STEM careers in Buffalo and solidifies partnerships between city schools and local life sciences and advanced manufacturing companies. The CBLS participated in three events during STEM Month that engaged over 500 students, in grades kindergarten to eighth grade, in life sciences and advanced manufacturing activities.
March 1: Advanced Manufacturing Day - Sponsored in conjunction with UB's New York State Center of Excellence in Materials Informatics (CMI), National Grid, and Buffalo Manufacturing Works (BMW), fifth grade BPS students visited BMW and the CBLS to learn about additive manufacturing and energy.

March 4: Science Literacy Awareness - UB's Integrated Science Education Manager, Dr. Sandra Small, dignitaries, and professionals gathered at Waterfront Elementary, with Buffalo and Erie County Library representatives, to read to children and promote science literacy.
March 10: Genome Day at the CBLS - At the second annual Genome Day, 400 BPS eighth grade students came to the CBLS to engage in a series of hands-on activities that promote genomic and bioinformatics literacy, including extracting their own DNA from cheek cells. The group leaders, including University students, postdoctoral fellows and professors, served as STEM role models to answer questions and educate students about STEM careers.
