Milford Junior Earns PERFECT Score on ACT!
Milford junior, Brendan Eveslage, earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT! Less than one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT earn the highest possible score of 36.
A letter from ACT stated, "Your achievement on the ACT is significant and rare. In the class of 2015, only 1,598 out of the 1.92 million students earned an ACT composite score of 36."
Brendan took the ACT when it was administered to Milford's entire junior class in March. It w as the second time he has taken the ACT. He earned a 33 the first time.
At Milford High School, Brendan participates in Marching Band, Winter Drumline, Jazz Band, German Club, and Robotics. He is currently enrolled in three Advanced Placement (AP) classes and plans to take four AP classes next year. Brendan hopes to pursue a career in sound design for motion pictures.
"We are incredibly proud of Brendan's outstanding accomplishment. To perform at the high school level takes accountability, integrity, and resilience-traits we strive to see in all Milford High School students. On behalf of the Milford High School faculty, staff and administration, I commend Brendan for his incredible achievement," MHS Principal, Josh Kauffman said.
Brendan credits part of his success to the preparation he has received in Milford Schools. He has been a Milford student since kindergarten. Brendan is the son of Sean and Tami Eveslage.
Milford Board Seeks Input on Next Superintendent
Dr. Robert Farrell
Milford Exempted Village Schools is asking for community input in their search for the district's next superintendent. The vacancy is the result of the retirement of Dr. Robert B. Farrell, who has served as superintendent since 2007. Steve Horton, Board Services Consultant for the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA), will be gathering input from staff, local business leaders and community members the week of April 18.
A focus group is planned for community members on Tuesd ay, April 19, from 6-7 p.m. in the Board Conference Room at 777 Garfield Avenue, Milford.
The focus group will last for one hour, during which Horton will review the hiring process and ask for input on the following three topics:
-Major issues facing the district for the next three to five years.
-Performance, personal and professional expectations for the next superintendent.
-Unique qualities of the community and school district.
Steve Horton will provide the board of education with a detailed report of the meetings held, which will help the board develop a more detailed profile of the ideal candidate, enhance their understanding of perceived future challenges and opportunities, and assist them in setting specific criteria for the screening, selection and evaluation of candidates.
The Milford Exempted Village Schools Board expects to have a permanent superintendent appointed by August 1, 2016.
Please RSVP by Friday, April 15, if you wish to attend the community focus group to MEVSD Treasurer, Debbie Caudle, caudle_d@milfordschools.org.

Community Invited to the "Main Event" on April 17
On Sunday, April 17, the community is invited to the "Main Event" to remember and celebrate Milford Main School from 1-3 p.m. at Milford High School. The afternoon will start with a program in the auditorium followed by a reception with refreshments in the cafeteria.

In addition to Milford High School choir and band members performing, the contents of a time capsule from 1951 recently discovered, will be shared. The time capsule includes lists of signatures from students who attended Main at that time. The district has published this list on its website (www.milfordschools.org  ) and will share on social media to find and invite these former students to the program. Copies of these original student lists will also be available as mementos. There will also be displays of old yearbooks and historical photos shared by Promont House Museum/Greater Milford Area Historical Society.

The district is encouraging those who attended Milford Main to share their memories on video. We will have our photojournalism students at the program on April 17 to record memories of former students. These video clips will be edited together and will be available online.

After exhausting all options for the 104-year-old building, the Milford Main property was sold by the school district to the City of Milford. The city's offer covered the district's cost for abatement and demolition of the build occurring during March and April.

To help us prepare for the event, please RSVP if you plan on attending by April 13 at the following link: Main Event RSVP. Direct questions to the Board Office at (513) 831-1314.
Milford Students Develop Prosthetic Arm for Local Girl
A local girl named Hope is receiving a new mechanical prosthetic arm, thanks to a group of Milford High School students and our partnership with 3M.

Students in the Project Lead the Way program, offered by Great Oaks at Milford High School, developed and built a prosthetic arm for a little girl named Hope. Instructor Peter Leeper knew of Hope's family from his church. A conversation with a business advisory committee member, Don Barnes of 3M, led to a donation of a 3D printer and materials. The printer and materials were used to make the prosthetic arm for Hope.

"What better way to apply the principles we are learning in class than by helping someone else? It was an authentic experience for our students," Leeper shared.

Pictured are students involved in the design and production of the prosthetic arm: Katie Belcher, Hannah Periman, Connor Hart, Jack Brown, with Hope and Mr. Leeper.

All three local stations featured this special story when Hope and her family came to Milford High School in March to meet with the students and have a final fitting.

April is National Autism Awareness Month.
Nearly a quarter century ago, the Autism Society launched a nationwide effort to promote autism awareness, inclusion and self-determination for all, and assure that each person with ASD is provided the opportunity to achieve the highest possible quality of life
The Autism Behavior Unit at Milford High School is a specialized classroom serving students on the Autism Spectrum. The unit has been approved by 4Paws for Ability in Xenia, Ohio for an autism assistance facility dog. The dog will be trained to meet the needs of our students with disabilities and help them achieve their goals. An assistance dog is expensive to train and the class must raise $15,000 for the 4Paws for Ability organization before receiving their dog.
Mrs. Panko, MHS Intervention Specialist, has set up a site for fundraising on  Razoo.com (Trena Panko MHS Autism Dog) so you can donate online. Her class is also selling t-shirts at MHS.
