Not All Fields Are Created Equal: Examining Gender Differences in STEM

Increasing women's participation in STEM has been a national topic that has led to changes in both education policy and business practices. Yet, research shows that some STEM fields reflect greater gender disparity than others. Women receive almost half of the bachelor's degrees in biology, chemistry, and mathematics, but earn less than 20% of computer science, engineering and physics degrees. What accounts for difference in STEM fields? How can we increase women's participation in underrepresented fields? Join Dr. Sapna Cheryan as she unravels the notion that gender differences are uniform in STEM fields and presents a model to explain why gender differences persist in computer science, physics and engineering. The Lindbergh Electric Aircraft Flight (LEAF) STEM Challenge

The LEAF STEM Challenge  is hosting the annual Fly-Off at the Museum of Flight. Students, grades 6-12 are invited to join us to see which team's airplane can successfully carry the most amount of cargo. The day will include time with STEM mentors, an awards ceremony to recognize our most successful teams in their divisions and lots of time for teams to fly their airplanes.  Registration is $20 for a team of up to four students. Washington middle and high school students are invited to develop and submit apps that solve a real-world problem. Students at all experience levels are encouraged to apply. Finalists will be invited to present their apps at the Youth Apps Challenge event at the University of Washington on June 4, 2016. Pacific Northwest Programs in The Connectory
Yellowstone Wildlife Ecology Summer Research Program 
Ecology Project Course
This opportunity is for high school students in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. They will experience five days in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem! Students will work with the Yellowstone Bison Team on a bison grazing study inside Yellowstone National Park, observe wolves with a member of the Yellowstone Wolf Project, and contribute to a conservation service project with the National Parks Conservation Association. The course is spent almost entirely outdoors and campers sleep under the stars each night.

Meet Audra. Her background is in Information Technology. She is currently the Director of Development and Operations for IGNITE.
