SAT/ACT Tutoring
Samueli Academy in partnership with Stepping up Testing Services is offering SAT/ACT tutoring. Tutoring will take place every Saturday between Jan 16th through Feb 27th from 8:30-11:30 AM on campus. The cost is $144 per student. This includes 7 sessions, a test prep workbook, a pre and post  SAT/ACT exam, and a specific student profile. Samueli Academy has committed to paying for half of the cost. We ask that students register and pay the $72 fee by Wednesday, December 16th. Paying in full guarantees a spot in the tutoring program. Students and/or parents must submit payment to Ms. Rocio.
Volunteer Work
Universities and scholarship committees seek that students give back to their community. There are several volunteer opportunities. Whenever students complete hours, students must write them into their log.
Early Admission versus Early Action
Early Decision and Early Action plans can be beneficial to students who have thought through their college options and have a clear preference for a university.  Early Decision plans are binding. States that a student who is accepted as an ED applicant MUST attend that university.  Early Action plans are non binding. States that students who apply early can receive an early response but do not have to commit to the college until the deadline of May 1st. Drawback is that student that applies early may receive limited financial aid. To learn more about Early Action and Early Decision, click here
The Personal Statement
Many universities do not interview students. In lieu of an interview, they have personal statements. The personal statement is your opportunity to share more about who you are with the admissions committee. The content of the Personal Statement should add meaning to the information you present in other parts of your application, enabling the Admissions committee to get to know you. Please note that in addition to your personal statement, admission committees will also consider your grades, test scores, courses taken, activities, and community service. Personal statements vary by university. To learn more about the University of California (UC) personal statement, click here.
