Examiner Spotlight:
Susan Muenter,
Pewaukee School District

It's back-to-school time, and we're focusing the Examiner Spotlight on someone who is integral to making sure Pewaukee School District is at top of its game:  Susan Muenter

Susan A. Muenter serves as the Director of Human Resources for Pewaukee School District.  In additional to her work on the Wisconsin Forward Award Board of Examiners, Susan is wrapping up her first year as a national Baldrige Examiner.

"I have always been interested in measuring my performance and effectiveness as it relates to HR's contribution to the organization.  As our school district began applying for WI Forward, applying to be an examiner to learn the process made sense to me," Susan notes.  "It also is an invaluable way to learn (borrow, steal) best practices from great organizations in Wisconsin."

Susan clearly takes professional development seriously. She holds two certifications: SPHR - Senior Professional in Human Resources (certified since 1997) and SHRM - Senior Certified Professional (certified since 2015).  Last spring, Susan received Milwaukee Business Journal HR Award for Education.

Many people don't know that Susan has worked in many industries over her 29 year career including healthcare, hospitality (hotels), and industrial automation - all working in the area of HR.  So it's not surprising her favorite "words to live by" focus on treating people well.  "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I believe strongly in giving back to others and to my community.  It's not what you leave behind, but what you do along the way."

Serving as an Examiner "is an excellent way to learn about continuous improvement while getting the opportunity to help other organizations get better," Susan emphasizes. "You gain knowledge and give back as an examiner."
