The Morton Economic Development Council is pleased to announce that Element Buildings, Morton Crossfit, and Good Shepard Defense and Training have been awarded the Morton MicroGrants for the Month of February.
Element Buildings is responsible for the construction of Jefferson Place. Jefferson place is an exciting new mixed use project currently under construction that will feature both, retail and residential units.
The Jefferson
represents the largest new capital investment in Downtown Morton in decades and we are happy to be able assist them in some final construction cost.
CrossFit Morton is run by owner Tony Schoedel and is located in Fields Shopping Center. CrossFit Morton is the first CrossFit gym in the area and Tony has seen a surge of membership since opening up here in Morton. Tony is a retired Pekin Firefighter who has been involved in fitness and helping people live a healthier lifestyle his entire life. The Morton MircroGrant will assist Tony in completing additional gym equipment purchases. Tony also plans on hiring 3-5 new employees in the near future

Brian Woods is the owner of Good Shepherd Defense and Training, which is on South Main by Fields Shopping Training. Good Shepherd Defense and Training provides firearms instruction and safety programs that range in levels from brand new students to advanced shooters. Brian is an Army Veteran who has a passion of instructing proficiency and confidence in firearms to the public and will now be able to do so. The MicroGrant will be going towards renovation cost and supplies. Good Shepherd Defense will also be adding 3-5 jobs in the near future.
The Morton MicroGrant provides small grants of up to $5,000 to for-profit business owners who are interested in starting, improving or growing a business here in Morton. The Morton MicroGrant is funded through a direct investment with the Morton EDC made by the Morton Community Bank. Since 2012 Morton MicroGrants have helped create nearly 70 jobs, with that number continuing to grow.
