Construction Begins on Memorial Plaza

Memorial Plaza's Groundbreaking Ceremony took place on March 23r d .  This collaborative project between the Village of Morton and the Morton Economic Development Council will begin construction immediately.  Laverdiere Construction out of Macomb was the low bidder at $1.24 million.

To date, the Morton Economic Development Council has raised over $865,000 to match the Village's $1 million contribution.  No property tax dollars has been used to fund this project.  The Village's contribution is from the additional business sales tax enacted several years ago.  Additional fundraising will continue in order to purchase items such as playground equipment, shade structures and granite memorial pieces, along with other costs such as an Ameren service installation charge and topsoil excavation.  The total project is expected to be $1.82 million.

If you are interested in contributing to this community project, please contact the MEDC at 309-263-2491. Project completion is expected to be before Pumpkin Festival this fall.
