Remembering Howard Sharon

The Greater Cincinnati Gay Chamber of Commerce remembers our friend Howard Sharon.
Our condolences to Howards's friends, family and co-workers at Shooters Bar. He will be remembered for his generous support of our local community.
Below is the obituary that was listed online:
Howard Sharon, 64, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away March 23, 2016. He was born in Covington, Kentucky on February 4, 1952 to Pauline (Robinson) Sharon.
He was the fifth oldest of eleven children, survived by Clifford Sharon, Lewis Sharon, Lulu Hembree, Kenny Sharon, Reed Sharon, Allen Sharon, Mary (Sissy) Ritter, Gary Sharon, Carol Brownfield and countless friends he considered family. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, George Sharon.
Howard served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1976, had a career with American Airlines and eventually owned and operated Shooters Bar in Cincinnati, Ohio, for over 25 years. He was a kind and generous man who will be missed by many.

Heartland Wellness Center - A new safe space in Cincinnati
Heartland Trans Wellness Group announces the opening of a new Transgender and LGBTQPIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Pansexual, Intersex, and Asexual) community center - the Heartland Wellness Center.
To celebrate, Heartland Wellness is holding a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony and you're invited!
Saturday, April 9 from Noon - 2 p.m.
Heartland Wellness Center is located at Mt Auburn Presbyterian Church (103 William Howard Taft Rd Cincinnati, OH 45219).
Programming for the ceremony will be lead by MC and Heartland Board Member, Callie Wright and include speakers Heartland Director Jonah Yokoyama, and Cincinnati City Councilman and Heartland Board Member Chris Seelbach, and a reception with food and beverages.
The Heartland Wellness Center is a secular space leased from Mt Auburn Presbyterian Church. It will initially open with scheduled programming and events, with drop in hour availability increasing as the volunteer roster expands. Free HIV Testing

Have you been tested lately? The Northern Kentucky Heath Department offers free HIV testing with results in 20 minutes. Counselors will be able to provide up to date information about HIV, treatment and PrEP. No Appointment is necessary.
Regularly scheduled testing events:
- Noon to 2 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the Marguerite Robinson Community Center, 400 W. Sixth St., Newport, Ky.
- 5 to 7 p.m., the second Monday of each month at the Walgreens HIV Specialty Pharmacy, 12th and Madison, Covington, Ky.
- 2 to 4 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky, 634 Scott St., Covington, Ky.
- 4 to 6 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at Walgreens, 3104 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, Ky.

PFLAG - Second Meeting Site Added

 PFLAG of Greater Cincinnati is thrilled to announce that a second monthly meeting will be held every third Wednesday of the month starting April 20th at Mount Washington Presbyterian Church located at
6474 Beechmont Ave. PFLAG will continue to meet on the second Tuesday of the month at Mount Auburn Presbyterian. Cincinnati's chapter of the national organization Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) was founded by three local mothers over 30 years ago. GLSEN - Day of Silence - 4/15
|
|
 GLSEN's Day of Silence is a student-powered event where youth take a vow of silence to represent the silencing effect of anti-LGBTQ bullying and harassment. Last year, more than 12,000 students participated, and celebrities like Laverne Cox, Jim Parsons and RuPaul sent them messages of solidarity. This year's Day of Silence is April 15.
The most important way you can show your support for Day of Silence right now is by registering. When you register your Day of Silence participation with GLSEN, you help us to stay in touch with you, send you resources, and keep track of how many people are being impacted by Day of Silence each year. Register here, and ask the students in our community to do the same! GLSEN's Day of Silence is our biggest student event of the year, and we're counting on you to help us keep it that way.

GLSEN Prom Returns May 6 & 7th
|

 GLSEN Greater Cincinnati Prom will be downtown at the Cincinnati Masonic Center on Friday, May 6 from 7 pm to 11:00 pm. It includes dancing, DJ, snacks and soda for LGBTQ youth and their allies in a fun, safe and supportive space. The 2016 prom theme is fairy tales -- so take your cue from Disney or Grimm, or just come as you are!
The Safe Space Soiree is the adult portion of GLSEN's annual Prom. For 2016 the Soiree will take place the night after Prom, on Saturday, May 7, also at the Cincinnati Masonic Center in downtown Cincinnati. Soiree admissions and donations allow the annual Prom to be a free event for all youth, and support GLSEN Greater Cincinnati's weekly Youth Group and outreach programs to local schools. All Soiree tickets include dinner and non-alcoholic beverages, one beer/wine drink ticket, cash bar for the remainder of the evening, dancing, and a silent auction.

Karmin to headline Cincinnati Pride

 Cincinnati Pride has announced that Karmin will headline this year's festival on June 25th. Karmin will take the stage at 7pm to cap off a full afternoon of local and national entertainment.

portmanteau made from the Latin word

Billboard Hot 100 charts, and the top 10 in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom, while "Hello" reached number one on the

Pulses. The album's lead single, "
Acapella", charted in the top 10 in Australia and New Zealand, and went Gold in the United States.
They left Epic Records in the middle of 2014 and have since released music independently. Their second album

Resource for LGBTQ Youth
|
|
GLSEN Greater Cincinnati hosts a weekly Youth Group meeting. The GLSEN Youth Group is a safe and welcoming space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth and their allies to gather. Each week the group explores a topic of interest to middle and high school-aged youth with an emphasis on LGBTQ issues. Youth group also includes weekly social time and a quarterly social outing or activity. GLSEN Youth Group relies on a series of youth generated ground rules to keep our space supportive and positive. We participate in days of action sponsored by GLSEN national and provide opportunities and resources for group members to organize actions in their school community, such as Day of Silence and Ally Week. - Click here for more details.
