Central Maryland Ecumenical Council (CMEC)

Throughout the Christian community, creation care efforts are increasing. Yet, we have not yet united our discrete initiatives to arouse a slumbering public nor raised our voices sufficiently to proclaim to all that creation care is an imperative of our faith. The Central Maryland Ecumenical Council's response is Awake and Arise: Habits of Faith campaign.

Through this faith-to-action campaign, we hope to build awareness and increase earth care behaviors in the denominations and congregations of the Central Maryland Ecumenical Council. We plan to accomplish this through equipping, educating, and inspiring faith leaders toward more intentional stewardship of the earth.

Christian individuals and congregations can log their earth care actions through Track it Forward. Through this site, we will be able to see each other's progress as individuals, congregations and denominations, and the impact we will have collectively made by the end of the 50 days. As people of faith, we have a call to steward God's beautiful creation and to take care of one another. Climate change is increasing rapidly, and the greatest impact falls on the most vulnerable people - taking away their homes, health and lives. The effects of climate change can surely be mitigated with our united intentionality.

There are many great things we can do when we come together, guided by God's strength and wisdom, to create lives of dignity as we work to restore the splendor of God's creation. Please pray over and consider making creation care a habit of faith! We pray that we will together speak out, take action, and make a difference on behalf of God's good earth.

Granite Presbyterian Church will feature Dr. John R. Lamkin II, renowned Baltimore Jazz trumpet player at its Jazz Vespers from 5-7pm on Sunday, Apr, 17. Dr. Lamkin - the recipient of the 2014 Jazz Heroes Award by the Jazz Journalists Association - currently directs bands and coordinates music education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He has performed as a soloist, with his sacred jazz quintet and as a guest conductor at churches throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area. Think warm weather and join Second Presbyterian Church's "Ring in the Spring!"-- A Community Handbell Festival on Sunday, Apr. 17. Time in Nature: Sharing and Caring - an Earth Forum program at 2pm on Sunday, Apr. 17 will feature Dr. Chiara D'Amore, Founder and Director, Columbia Families in Nature (CFIN) in a discussion about the success of the program. The Center needs skilled and unskilled volunteers to help repair and paint ceilings, clean light fixtures, install shelves and towel racks, sand and repaint window sills, and other tasks. We have scheduled three maintenance days in late April.
