Join Us For Family Chapel And Meet The New Head Of School
We want to fill the sanctuary with our amazing PCA families to celebrate the good things that God is going to do in the future at PCA.
Our new Head of School, JD Zubia, and his wife Selina will be with us in family chapel on April 6th. Mr. Zubia will introduce himself to the PCA family, and we will also play a few "get to know PCA" games with Mr. Zubia to introduce ourselves. It should be a great opportunity to come together and celebrate God's past and future blessings at our school.
Following chapel, PCA will host a Meet and Greet Coffee with our new Head of School in the Annex at 9:15 am.  We invite all parents of preschool through 12th grade students to come by and get to know Mr. Zubia personally. Even if you cannot make it to chapel, please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself at the coffee.
We look forward to seeing you there!

"Cultural Studies Trip" Offered To PCA Upper School Students:
 Summer Of 2017
Master the ingredients and preparation for a traditional Costa Rican dish... travel as the natives populations would, by horseback, to the cloud forest of Monteverde... and learn the steps of traditional Costa Rican dances. It's all possible with a PCA led cultural studies trip to Costa Rica.
Spanish teacher Mitzi Loudin will lead the trip on June 13th - 21st, 2017 with ACIS student tours.
This trip will be offered to students in 6th-12th grades.
If you are interested in learning more, please join us for an informational meeting next Thursday, April 14th at 6pm in B219
to discuss tour, pricing and registration.

As part of the trip, students will experience part of a traditional school day for a Costa Rican student as well as discover the rich and diverse topography of Costa Rica's lush rainforests, volcanic mountains and sparkling Pacific waters.
Mrs. Loudin says this will be a phenomenal learning experience. "I have studied and traveled to Costa Rica five times and it is an excellent place to practice your Spanish.  This particular trip incorporates cultural activities including cooking, dancing, arts and conversation."
4th Graders Share The Story Of The Passion Of Christ
Written by 4th Grade Teacher Karly Sorensen
The fourth graders have been working on some very special books for a very special purpose.  They have been creating artistic and thoughtful books that tell the story of the Passion of Christ.  Each page contains a verse that tells a part of the story and a beautiful hand-drawn illustration to bring each part of the story to life.  The fourth graders have worked very hard on these books, and they have been praying about a person in their life that might not know Jesus to whom they could give this book as a gift.   It has been wonderful to see the children pour their hearts into creating these beautiful books, and even more wonderful to see their hearts burst with excitement as they prepare to give the amazing message of Christ's redeeming love to someone who may not have ever heard it before.  We are praying that God's uses these precious Easter books to further His Kingdom and impact lives for eternity!

Meet Our New Fighting Eagles Cheer Coaches!
Amber Meteraud and Amy Welch
We are so excited to welcome two new Cheer Coaches to the PCA team!
Amber Meteraud will be coaching our Varsity Squad while Amy Welch will coach our JV cheerleaders.
We thought you would enjoy getting to know a little about each of these amazing women.

Let's start with Amber's story:
Born and raised in Charleston, I started school at Woodland Hall and James B Edwards before transferring to PCA in 4th grade. I began gymnastics in the 3rd grade and my mom opened GymMasters when I was in 5th grade because the facility where I was training did not have a full size floor. Going straight from school to gymnastics practice meant dinner on the go and late night homework almost every night. So I learned dedication and time management from a very young age which has carried on with me throughout life! Before graduating PCA in 8th grade, I tried out for the Varsity cheerleading squad at Wando and to my surprise, I made the team! Prior to this, I had only done two years of all-star cheer at GymMasters and my tumbling skills were solely from gymnastics. Cheerleading was very foreign to me (the concept of being sharp instead of graceful) until my freshman year in high school.

While at Wando, I was on the Varsity cheer squad all four years and was also a pole vaulter and hurdler on the Varsity track and field team. I was named captain of both squads my senior year which taught me about leadership, consistency, equality and confidence. In April of my senior year, I traveled to Clemson and tried out for the 2009-2010 All Girl Cheerleading Squad.  I made it! I  served as an ambassador of Clemson University on this team from 2009-2013.

The summer after my freshman year in college, I tried out for Universal Cheerleaders Association staff and have worked cheerleading camps for middle and high school teams, as well as college, every summer since 2010. I now serve as one of three Head Instructors for the state of South Carolina.

Since graduation, I began working in Promotions for iHeartMedia of Charleston and about six months ago moved into sales as a Marketing Consultant.

I am excited to have the opportunity to give back to the place that taught me so much about my faith and myself at a young age. I am ready to be a part of the PCA family again and to make a positive impact on these children's lives. The best is yet to come!

Now let's meet Amy Welch:
Amy Welch has joined PCA as the JV Cheer Coach.  Amy, and her husband, Joe, are members of ECBC and have two children who attend PCA; Jacks, 4th grade and Reese, 1st grade.  Amy began cheerleading at the age of 4.  She cheered through high school in North Carolina where her team won the state championship two out of her three years on Varsity.  Amy then cheered at Appalachian State University, was a UCA instructor during the summers of her college education and went on to be the head coach of Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.  Amy is a personal trainer and is owner of Palmetto Fit Club.
Amy is thrilled to be coaching our JV Eagle Squad. "Cheerleading is such a team sport and it all begins with the fundamentals.  I'm excited to inspire the JV squad to be their best...to be encouraging of each other and build each other up while working hard to improve their cheerleading skills."
Two PCA Athletes Selected For All-Lowcountry Basketball Team
Junior Lindsay Ellington and 8th grader Thomas Michel have been named as Honorable Mention members of the Post and Courier All-Lowcountry Basketball team.  Lindsay led the team in many statistical categories this season and was chosen to play in the SCISA North/South All-Star game.  Unfortunately, a hand injury kept her from participating.  Thomas split time between the Varsity and JV squads this season and led both teams in scoring average per game.
Congratulations Lindsay and Thomas... we are so proud of you!

B-Team Baseball:
The PCA Baseball B-team took to the field on Thursday, March 24th hosting First Baptist at the Wando South field.  The boys fell behind early but started a comeback late in the game.  Unfortunately, they ran out of innings before the comeback could be completed and ended up losing 9-4.  They will be in action again tomorrow as they take on Porter Gaud in an away game starting at 5 pm.

Cheer:
On Monday, March 21, there was a meeting for those interested in cheering next year.  Our new coaches, Amber Meteraud (Varsity) and Amy Welch (JV), were introduced and laid out the dates for tryouts and team camp.  Anyone that missed the meeting but is interested in trying out for either team should stop by Di Hirshman's desk to pick up the information as quickly as possible.

Varsity Golf:
The golf team will tee off in a match tomorrow at 2 pm against First Baptist at the Daniel Island Club.  The Eagles are coming off a 2nd place finish in the region meet before the break.

Varsity Boys Soccer:
The PCA boys defeated the Cathedral Generals 7-1 in soccer action on March 24.  Grant Lonneman, Tristan Lonneman, Corbett Ciali and Andrew Lindenmeyer all tallied goals as the Eagles ran their record to 3-1 on the season.  Both the girls and boys teams will take to the pitch again tomorrow at Coastal Christian with the girls starting at 4 pm and the boys game following immediately thereafter.

Track and Field:
The PCA Track team was in action at Porter Gaud before the break and the girls finished 2nd out of 8 teams.  The most notable performances from the meet were:
Lauren Pernell set a School Record in the Long Jump breaking the old mark by 8.5".
The 4x400 relay team of Lauren Pernell, Parker Carson, Catherine Cave and Mackenzie Patrick broke the School Record by almost a full second.
Lauren Pernell, Catherine Cave and Libby Ashworth all qualified for the State Meet in Long Jump.
Mackenzie Patrick qualified in the 100m, 200m and 400m.
Several athletes set new Personal Records.

A small contingent of varsity runners were entered in the Father Kelly Classic held at Bishop England High School this past Saturday.  This event featured many of the local AAAA public schools and the girls team finished 9th out of 13 teams defeating Northwood Academy, Wilson Hall, Goose Creek High, and Ben Lippen.
Lauren Pernell broke her own school record in the 100 hurdles by .45 seconds and finished 4th overall in the High Jump while Catherine Cave finished 2nd in High Jump.
Libby Ashworth qualified for state in the 100m and set new personal records in the 100m and 200m while Elle Christopher and Kylee Keenan set new personal records in the 100m and the 800m respectively.
On the boys' side, Brad Chaney improved his long jump mark by 11.5" and qualified for state.  Also, Davis Hirshman set new personal records in the 100m and 200m.
The track team will be in action again on April 20th at Porter Gaud starting at 4 pm.
