New! EDS at Arts Council Show
Evansville Day School's "The Beauty of Nature" mural will be displayed at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana's 2016 Another's Treasure exhibit.  The exhibit will officially open on April 8th, and a reception and award presentation will be held on Earth Day, Friday, April 22, from 5:30 pm - 7 pm.

The work is a collaborative effort between our middle and primary school students. Last fall, 6th graders created art based on the question, "What does a sustainable world look like?" The winning design is an original watercolor by Emma Troost, depicting an eagle soaring over green hills in front of a rising sun. 8th grade students painted the enlarged design on plywood panels. Mrs. Powell's science students washed and prepared the caps, and the Primary students sorted the caps by color and placed them on the mural.

New! Dress Code Reminder
With the weather changing, now is the time to review dress code.
Reminder that leggings should be worn only under skirts and dresses, not as pants alone. Jeans day may include jean shorts as long as they meet the length requirement of shorts on other days (mid-thigh).

General Updates and Campus Happenings

Transitions
After 19 years, Kelly Ballard has decided to retire from his role as Evansville Day School's Head Varsity Basketball Coach. Kelly will continue his student-centered, impressive career at Day School as a technology teacher and head of the broadcast journalism and film making programs.

After careful consideration and thoughtful conversation, Coach Ballard and Athletic Director Tom Dragon have selected Austin Brooks '01 as the next varsity basketball coach at Evansville Day School. Austin was a tremendous student-athlete at Day School. Coach Ballard remembers Austin as "one of the best kids I've ever coached. He was a very talented player, but he was a better teammate and person. He was the kind of person that makes everyone around him better."

Full details about this transition will be posted on our website soon!

International Speaker Series
Right before Spring Break, EDS primary school students had the opportunity to
discover the many facets of Mexico. Senora Leticia Merlin Hernandez, a native of Mexico, spent the day with us, introducing her country's culture, food, music and customs. During her visit to our school, she talked to students about the history and geography of Mexico. She showed lots of  pictures, conversed with students in Spanish and also introduced a new song for us to learn, called 'Las 7 vocales'. In several classes, she taught  students how to create 'Papeles Picados' and paper flowers. Finally, she introdu ced major Mexican holidays and celebrations and shared her traditional dresses, coins, bills and artwork from Mexico with our students. At the conclusion of her presentation, students enjoyed salsa and tortillas.
Senora Hernandez' visit was part of our international visitor speaker series. Primary School students will have the opportunity to learn more about other Spanish speaking countries, such as Colombia, Venezuela and Argentina. Our next presentation will take place on Thursday, April 7 . Click below to learn more about our future presentations.
