State Board of Education Actions

SBE approved/adopted the following:

Position statement on Supreme Court decision on League of Women Voters of Washington et al. v. State of Washington.
2015-17 SBE Core Agency Budget.
Temporary Waiver of Graduation Requirements for College Place School District, Fife School District and White Salmon School District.
Basic Education Act Waiver Requests from Ridgefield School District and Sultan School District.
SBE Letter on Recommendations to the Washington Legislature and Governor Inslee Regarding Making Ample Provision for Schools.
Position Statement on Achievement Index Weightings.

Student Board member Baxter Hershman presented research on a tool to assist students with the High School and Beyond Plan.

The Board conducted elections for the three executive committee member-at-large positions. Members Connie Fletcher, Judy Jennings, and Peter Maier were elected.

The Board heard a panel presentation about competency-based approaches to credit retrieval.

A student panel, introduced by student board member Madaleine Osmun, presented on their experience with the Smarter Balanced Assessments.

Staff presented on Smarter Balanced Assessment results.
