Adoption Results for September
We had 11 adoptions and 11 new arrivals. 9 dogs from Alabama entered TGIE prison program and two dogs are untattooed and came from a hunting farm in Ohio (American Lurcher Project). This brings our year-to-date totals to 80 adopted and 76 rescued!

Walk for a Dog

WoofTrax is an app that allows you to help out rescue groups just by walking your dog, and American Greyhound has recently been added to their rescue list.

All you have to do is download the app onto your phone.  Then, simply tap on the app when you take your dog for a walk and take a walk for American Greyhound.  It's that simple!  Every walk, no matter how long or short helps.

So next time you and your grey head out, consider walking for a dog.

Fall Options in Our Shop

The weather is starting to urn chilly, so now is a great time to pic up an American greyhound sweatshirt.  Check them out at our store and allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.

Greyhound Guardians

American Greyhound is a shining beacon of hope for greyhounds. For over 15 years, American Greyhound has been making a difference in the lives of these noble animals. We take them in when they have nowhere else to turn. We provide the necessary veterinary care to assure their lives will be long and healthy. Then, we find them a home so they are able to live out their lives, as a pet who knows the love of an adoring family.

However, helping greyhounds is a long term commitment at American Greyhound. We have begun a process of preparing for these long term efforts, and in 2010 used the proceeds of our first annual auction to fund a state-of-the-art greyhound hauling trailer that allows us to be prepared on short notice, and move up to 24 hounds at a time, out of peril and into the safety of American Greyhound and other Midwest greyhound rescues.

We are also planning for the long term sustainability of American Greyhound. Our 2011 auction allowed us to create a reserve fund. This reserve fund will allow us to be prepared when there is a track closing or some other crisis.  When these situations arise, they can create an immense surplus of hounds overnight, and we will be able to provide for temporary shelters, huge vet bills, and very large transportation costs.

But, our reserve fund will also provide something else . . . PERMANENCY! Most importantly, we are preparing for the future of American Greyhound and its future leaders, who will be making a difference in greyhound's lives long after we are gone. We are introducing "Greyhound Guardians", a monthly membership which will help provide permanency, and assure that when a greyhound is in trouble...we'll be there for them.

Now, I'm asking for your help to assure that this organization continues, to be the premier greyhound rescue in the Midwest, by becoming a member of "Greyhound Guardians", on a monthly basis of $10 or more. You can start the process today by clicking this link.

Your Greyhound Guardians membership will include:

* Your name listed on every American Greyhound event program

* Discount tickets to "Winning Hearts, Not Races" annual auction

In Addition, anyone joining at $100 or more per month will receive

I believe that Greyhound Guardians is an integral part of the future of American Greyhound, and what's more, I am a member myself. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions about our financial reports, our future or how together, we can help more and more greyhounds. I'd love to speak with you.
