Update from National: Utah Governor Signs Commercial Interior Design Certification Act

As expected, on March 25th Utah Governor Gary Herbert signed S117 to create a state certification for commercial interior designers to allow certificate holders to prepare plans for purposes of obtaining a building permit for work affecting an area of 3,000 sq. ft. or more so long as the structure is not impacted, the occupancy classification is not changed, and the building life safety components have been installed or designed and permitted.

We do not anticipate that this bill, as revised from the original draft, will have much impact on our members.
