Helio Castroneves is the new speed "King" at Phoenix Int'l Raceway.
The Team Penske driver broke Arie Luyendyk's qualifying speed record of 183.599 mph set on March 23, 1996 by nearly 10 mph on Friday. Castroneves' pole winning speed for the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix was a two-lap average of 192.324 mph around the 1.022-mile PIR oval in a Chevrolet.

Chris Madden dominated the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event at Boyd's Speedway on Friday night. Madden led all 50 laps en route to his first LOLMDS win of the season and the eighth of his career.
Randy Weaver edged Jared Landers at the finish line for second. Point leader Jonathan Davenport came home in fourth, followed by polesitter Scott Bloomquist.

Andretti Autosport has confirmed its final entry for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, with American Townsend Bell joining the team to drive the No. 29 Honda.
This will mark Bell's first outing in the No. 29 machine. Indianapolis-based Andretti Autosport holds three Indianapolis 500 victories with the late Dan Wheldon (2005), Dario Franchitti (2007) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (2014).

Last weekend Kasey Kahne showed little rust when he climbed back behind the wheel of a sprint car and promptly won a 410 sprint car feature at Pennsylvania's Lincoln Speedway.
For Kahne, who won the 2000 USAC National Midget Series championship before his move to NASCAR, it showed that he hasn't forgotten how to drive an open-wheel car despite only racing one a handful of times a year because of his NASCAR commitments.
