A Message from the Director

This week marks ten years since the announcement of Larry Hill's retirement and the eighth anniversary of me becoming director. I think the day was March 28 or 29th. I was supposed to take over on April 1st , but it was suggested April Fool's Day might not be the best idea. Anyway, I was taking a tour around reflecting on all the changes we have made in that time. None of them would be possible without your support. I know I say that a lot. That is because it's true. Thanks for all the help. I really wonder where we will be eight years from now. I really believe the best is yet to come!

Even though the fall is my favorite season, I do like the first beautiful days of spring. The flowering cherries are in bloom, the grass is bright green and the snow-capped mountains are shining. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. I personally think Seabeck might be the best corner of that part of the world, but we know I'm biased. We are gearing up for some busy months ahead. Many large groups come and go in April and May. The swim dock is in, the boats are floating and the mowers have started up. There are also some big events coming up.

We will once again participate in the Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG. This is a great way to support Seabeck. There will once again be a matching pool that will extend your gift even further. The actual GiveBIG day is May 3rd, but you can schedule a donation starting April 18th. We will have links to our GiveBIG page on our homepage. You might also see Seabeck pop up on the Seattle Times website. They have a program placing small ads for non-profits through May 3rd.

Registration has opened for the Seabeck Annual Meeting and Seafood Fest. It will be held on the afternoon of May 22nd. The cost is only $10. You can register by emailing us at [email protected] or calling 360-830-5010. I hope you join us for this fun event.

Enjoy the great weather!
Chuck

Signs of Spring at Seabeck

Kitsap Quilter, Val Martinson, emailed this beautiful picture she took at their March retreat. Thank you so much for sharing!

"I walk a lot at retreats and have explored the trails here all over and roads up in the hills. I saw this butterfly in the field you pass through on the trail to the graveyard on March 17. It finally landed and I was able to get a pic lying camouflaged in the leaves. I looked it up. It is a Mourning Cloak and hibernates over the winter. It is the first one out and likes to feed on rising sap in Willows and some other native deciduous. It was basking in sun. Well camouflaged, isn't It? Thought you would enjoy seeing other "treasures " out here."   ~  Val Martinson
