OMCA Meetings and Important Community/County Announcements

MEET THE CANDIDATES who are running for the Oakland Mills Board: 
Paul Verchinski, Kay Wisniewski, Bill McCormack Jr., Jonathan Edelson, Judy Gottsagen, Virginia (Ginny) Thomas and Lynn Steven Engelke.  Reginald Avery is running for the open Columbia Council Seat. A "Meet The Candidate" evening will be held Tues. April 5 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at The Other Barn.

The Oakland Mills Board Has Selected John DiTomasso as the OM Volunteer of the Year!
 
John DiTomasso ~ Oakland Mills Volunteer of the Year.
John is the Co-Chair of the Oakland Mills Education Committee and involved in the "reinvention" of Oakland Mills. He is a mentor at Stevens Forest Elementary School and volunteers throughout the community. The Board will honor Mr. DiTomasso at a reception on Tuesday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m. at The Other Barn and everyone is welcome to attend.
 
 
The Oakland Mills Board meets the 2nd and 4th Tues. of each month at The Other Barn at 7:00 p.m.
The next board meeting will be
Tuesday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m
.
HCPSS Board of Education Member Ellen Flynn Giles will attend the meeting on April 12th.  Ms. Giles is the BOE Representative to the Oakland Mills "cluster" schools.
An agenda for the April 12 will be sent early next week.

OM Education Committee will meet on Tues. April 12th at 6:00 p.m. at The Other Barn.  The meeting will be held in the Loft.

Proceeds go directly back to the community to help residents defray the costs of cul-de-sac/street beautification projects and block parties.

EASTERN EUROPE & RUSSIA CULTURE FEST
 
The "Eastern Europe and Russia Culture Fest" will be held on Sunday, April 10, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Howard County Library System's Miller Branch, 9421 Frederick Road in Ellicott City. The event is hosted by Columbia Association (CA) and the Howard County Library System.

Columbia Community Building Speakers Series presents UMBC President Freeman A. Hrabowski III on May 5

CA and the African American Community Roundtable of Howard County are pleased to present Hrabowski at "Diversity Matters: Building on Columbia's History as an Inclusive Community." The event will be held on Thursday, May 5, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Wilde Lake Interfaith Center, 10431 Twin Rivers Road in Columbia. It is free and open to the public. Registration is not required but is encouraged via CADiversityMatters.EventBrite.com. Child care will be provided upon request.

The featured guest in Columbia Association's (CA) Community Building Speakers Series is President Freeman A. Hrabowski III of University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Hrabowski was named one of "America's Best Leaders" by U.S. News and World Report, one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" by Time magazine, and was spotlighted by famed television newsmagazine 60 Minutes.

  5k Walk - Sat., April 23, LUNGevity Foundation's Breathe Deep Columbia event to raise awareness about lung cancer. Register at www.lungevity.org/columbia or call 312-407-6100. Brief program & warm up at 9:30 a.m., walk around Lake Kittamaqundi begins at 10 a.m. This family-friendly event is held rain or shine. Proceeds from the event will benefit LUNGevity and will fund research to achieve its goal to increase lung cancer survivorship.
