Spring has certainly sprung and the YMCA of Washington County is bustling with a variety of activities! The stories below highlight just a few of the programs that occurred in March.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
On March 16, I enjoyed seeing the staff from Hills Bank come to the YMCA and show off their baby chickens to the kids in our childcare program! They listened intently to a chicken story and then saw live chicks. Maybe I was the one who was most excited!
Also during the month of March, I observed fourteen 3-5 years olds participate in a variety of activities during our Mighty Mites program in Kalona. I really loved seeing the summersaults and how all the kids were so excited to come to the YMCA.
HEALTHY LIVING
There are several adult sports that occur at the YMCA. One can hear a dozen men playing basketball over the noon hour on Fridays at the Washington Community YMCA. We then have an eight team adult basketball league at the Kalona Rec Center on Wednesday
nights. On Thursday nights we have six women volleyball teams who also play in Kalona. Then we just finished the coed volleyball league in Washington. This was a highly contested event for the league winners, "Team Sanders". Congratulations to all who participated!
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Lastly, I want to thank all the businesses and individuals for supporting our upcoming Gala Event at the Wellman YMCA. The proceeds from this event help support our Annual Campaign. This year's event will be held on Saturday, April 2 and we have 140 people attending. This will be our largest crowd in over five years. Our theme this year is Dream. It is exciting to see the dreams for our YMCA Association become a reality as we are able to serve over 3500 members and an additional 4400 non-members. Thank you for all of your support! Together we are truly making a difference in the lives of others.
