Meet Lilly, a 3 year old Chiweenie (half Chihuahua and half Dachshund). Last December Lilly was rescued from Clay County Animal Control. So many people passed over Lilly and did not want a dog with three legs, but the minute I opened her cage Lilly leaped into my arms. All Lilly wanted for Christmas was a family to call her own and now she has one at the Peoria L.I.F.E. Group Home.

  Peoria, just like our headquarters, has been in transition and the changes have increased tension within the house.  When Lilly appeared on the scene everything changed.  A certified service dog, Lilly assists when someone has a panic attack or anxiety issues. She can sense a problem well before it appears. The girls take turns feeding, watering, and taking Lilly outside. Lilly wakes the girls up in the mornings. She waits for them to do their routine then she will sit next to them on the couch until it's time to leave on the van. She sits at the window until the van pulls off and watches at the window until they return. Once she hears the van beeping to back up she greets the girls at the door one by one.

  Lilly has a special friendship with each of the girls. Lilly just fell in love with Candice and gets super excited when she sees her come in the door. Julie was afraid of dogs at first but once Lilly won her over they became best friends. When it's bed time Lilly jumps on the bed and tucks Becky in.

  Lilly has been a great asset to Peoria as she keeps the house calm. We love her so much and could not see the world without her. Lilly goes almost everywhere with Peoria. She has gone to Good Time Tuesday night, to the movie theater, and even does a little shopping. It's hard to believe that no one wanted her because of her disability. She has 3 legs and when Candice first saw her she said "Lilly is disabled just like me". The personality Lilly has lets everyone know just because you are different does not mean you can't do anything you want to do.
