The Last River Draw will be placed in the Boyne River.

"The Last River Draw" crowdfunding campaign nears goal - with one week left
With just one week left, The Last River Draw crowdfunding campaign has raised $22,587 of its $25,000 goal, thanks to big efforts over the weekend. Special thanks to Robin Berry and local Girl Scouts for bringing in well over $1,000 with their penny drive. They are right -  "every penny counts." Jim, Jessica and Sharon White of Ace Hardware challenged others to donate with a matching donation, dollar for dollar, up to $1,000, when they attended Saturday's concert at Freshwater Gallery. Their matching challenge literally generated $4 for every $1 someone pledged - between the Whites' donation and the matching grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, also a dollar for dollar match. Then on Wednesday, Nancy and Floyd Wright donated $1,000 to bring the total to within $2,500 of the goal.  The Last River Draw, a Boyne City Main Street initiative, will be a life-size bronze sculpture of a logger placed on a log floating in the Boyne River pulling another log with a pike pole used in the early lumbering era.
> IT'S NOT TOO LATE to be a part of this timeless work of art, but don't wait too long. The campaign expires on April 9. For project details or to donate, visit: www.Patronicity.com/LastRiverDraw or contact mainstreet@boynecity.com or 231.582.9009.

Larry and Valerie Glasgow
Water Street Cafe of Boyne City will be reopening on a limited basis sometime in April. Owner Valerie Glasgow said she and husband Larry will open the cafe from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Here is her announcement post on Facebook: "Alright, alright, alright already! You have succeeded in wearing us down! So, starting sometime in April, we will be opening on Saturdays and Sundays for breakfast. Everyone said, do it, but simplify, so that's what we are doing. We have streamlined our morning menu, but extended breakfast hours so you Sunday folks can enjoy breakfast at the Cafe after church."
They need to hire some staff and are taking applications - call 231-582-4882 for information or to schedule an interview. "Grow Your Business with Email and Social Media" on April 14th
Kim Schott
Mark your calendar for the Chamber's next marketing seminar at 8 a.m. Thursday, April 14, at the Boyne District Library. That day's topic will be "Grow Your Business with Email and Social Media." It is free for members of any chamber of commerce and $10 for others. Many small businesses and organizations find themselves seeking the right strategies, tools and tactics to make their marketing efforts as effective as possible. But between Facebook and Twitter, email and mobile, deals, and whatever new social network is rolling out that month - there's a lot to keep up with. And there are only so many hours in each day. The number of possibilities can feel overwhelming. This session will help make sense of the noise.
> Presenter for this seminar is Kim Schott, a social media expert who has been featured at several popular Boyne Chamber seminars in the past. Check-in and networking begins at 8 a.m. at the Library Community Room, and the seminar will run from 8:15 to 9:30. Coffee and pastries will be served. Registration is required - click here to sign up

1904 clock will be restored for new City Hall
From the Petoskey News-Review: When the new Boyne City City Hall and emergency services building is completed next year, it will serve as a sort of time capsule in more ways than one. On Tuesday, during its last-ever meeting in the existing city hall building, the Boyne City City Commission voted 4-0 to approve a contract for the restoration of the city's historic 112-year-old clock and its eventual installation in the soon-to-be constructed new city hall building. The contract is with Balzer Family Clock Works of Freeport, Maine, for $85,744. Full story.

All of our senior class will participate in at least two job interviews (either real or mock). We are looking for businesses who are wishing to hold real job interviews for summer/long-term employment as well as individuals who are willing to come in and participate in mock interviews. The schedule for the day will be from 12:45 to 3:30 p.m. for volunteers.
> If you are able to volunteer and/or participate, contact Karen Jarema at 231-439-8130 or email kjarema@boyne.k12.mi.us.
New date (Nov. 2) and new location for Business Expo
The Boyne Expo attracts more than 90 exhibitors, including "Taste of Boyne" food booths.
The Boyne Area Chamber's Business Expo and Taste of Boyne, previously held in late April, has been scheduled for November 2nd this year. Besides the date change, the event has been moved from the former Carter's building to the Civic Center at Boyne Mountain. The Chamber conducted a survey after last year's Expo, asking exhibitors if they would like to keep it in April or move it to the fall. The survey showed that 39% of exhibitors did not have a preference, but of those who did have a preference, 65% favored moving the event to the fall. Several members said they preferred the fall because the Charlevoix, Petoskey and Harbor Springs Chamber expos are all in the spring. One exhibitor commented: "Our April date is so close to the Petoskey expo that it's challenging from a staffing perspective to manage both events, and there are members common to both chambers. Spreading the events out a bit more would give us some breathing room." This year's Boyne Expo is moving to Boyne Mountain because the formerly empty Carter's building is now being used by Spartan Stores as a warehouse/storage facility. Executive director Jim Baumann said that Expo exhibitor applications would be available this summer. Watch this newsletter for updates. Expo web page is www.boyneexpo.com.

KorthaseFlinn offers tips for preventing auto theft
Cars are probably the single most popular target of crime because they are  relatively easy to steal. In the time it takes you to brush your teeth, a car is stolen  in the United States. To put the brakes on vehicle theft, try the following:
> Consider anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks or fuel cut-off switches.
> Have your vehicle identification number (VIN) etched into each piece of glass on the vehicle as a deterrent.
