Learning is growing, right?
Spring Classes Are Up, Y'all!
New life, new ideas, new projects--we've got 'em all, and we've put together a full slate of classes to get you going this season. Ann Weaver is coming for a full day immersion in the colors of Mark Rothko (who said knitters aren't artists?). Bruce Weinstein will take us on a double-knitting adventure. Need a new project? We've got the lovely Lida linen shawl, and an absolutely divine crocheted neckpiece that you have to see to believe. Read on for more inspiration, and to get your spring mojo going with us. We can't wait!
The Rothko Cowl:
A Day With Ann Weaver

There are a few more places left for this one-of-a-kind color adventure. We'll jump into the mind of two fascinating colorists: Mark Rothko, iconic explorer of the chromatic experience in modern art, and Ann Weaver, who has designed her latest collection around Rothko's color work. We'll start at the Yale Art Gallery, where curatorial staff will discuss Yale's Rothko collection. Then we'll move back to the shop, where we'll lunch (on us!), then Ann will fill us in on her creative process as we make the jump from canvas to KNITTING.  Knitters will pick colors for their own color adventure, Ann's Rothko Cowl, and we'll spend the afternoon knitting our masterpieces!
This class is filling up FAST, so we urge you to call us ASAP (203.777.5648) if you'd like to reserve a spot. It'll be a day to remember; won't you join us?
knitting skills needed: basic; comfortable knitting in the round
Sunday, April 10th     10:30-4:30      $135

Unfinished Business:
Bring Us Your WIPs!
Don't let your works-in-progress linger any longer! We all have projects that stalled for some reason: we laid them aside and forgot where we left off; we dropped a stitch and can't fix it; we can't remember what size we were working on; we just ran out of steam. It can be SO FRUSTRATING to be stuck! We have set aside a morning to BRING IN YOUR UNFINISHED BUSINESS. Bring in your works-in-progress for troubleshooting and support, and stay as long as you like to work out the kinks. We can't perform miracles, but we can probably tell you where you went astray and what you need to do to get your knitting back on track.
Staffing for the session will depend on enrollment--let us know early, please!
Saturday, April 23rd          9:00-11:00                   $15

Ever wished you could make your own yarn, JUST the way you want it? You can do it!  Come take a new look at an old craft here at the shop. We'll provide the wheel, the wool, and the gentle guidance of a master spinner as you learn the rhythm of spinning your own color and texture. We sell a complete array of spinning supplies, and if you love what you learn you can deduct the cost of this class from the cost of any spinning wheel you order from us. Good deal, right?

Sweet Spring Knits:
lida
Here's a lovely way to jump into spring. Quince & Co.'s signature linen, Sparrow, is a delight to knit with, and Lida is a simple seasonal triangle with a soft touch. We love the clean lines of the blossom stitch paired with the delicacy of lacy eyelets. Melissa will walk you through all stitch techniques, garter tab cast-on, and how to read a basic knitting chart (though the pattern contains written directions if you prefer).  Julia knit a shop sample in a soft teal;  come see, and pick the perfect color for  your Lida.

Crochet Love:
The Kotobuki Cowl
Look what Rachel made! She grabbed a hook, a skein of our beautiful Freia Alpaca Silk Lace, and this lovely pattern, and when we saw the result we had to share. Now Rachel has agreed to teach a class on this lovely piece for the crocheter who has learned the basics and is ready to take his/her crochet skills to the next level. Rachel will cover working with laceweight yarn, foundation single crochet (FSC), and working with a large number of stitches to get students started on their own spring masterpiece.
skills needed:  Crocheters in this intermediate class should be comfortable with basic stitching (sc, dc, slip stitch), and with working in the round.
Sunday, May 22nd           10:00-12:00                 $40

Double Knitting With a Genius:
Bruce Weinstein's Double Knit Double Knot Scarf
Oh, Bruce, is there anything you can't do?

And your class fee will include a hardcover copy of Bruce's book, Boyfriend Sweaters, in your class fee--ready to be author-signed!
