Believe it or not, we're approaching the 3/4 mark of the 2015-2016 school year.  Monday, April 4th, is a staff development day for teachers, so no school for kids.  At the elementary, Kindergarten Roundup is right around the corner - if you have child entering kindergarten, make sure you are registered at either Taylors Falls or the Primary. At CLMS, the 3rd Annual 5K is taking place on April 16th - you can still register for the family event. Spring activities are up and running, so check out the latest information and schedules...

Student Reps at Lakeside Taste Test School Lunch Options
Students at Lakeside Elementary are helping shape the menu for next school year.  They participated in taste testing various items from pizza to burgers and other items under consideration for the upcoming menu.  This should help the Food Service Department give students the options they approve and like, reducing food waste and increasing participation in the school lunch program.
The pizza they tested in the Student Representatives Group, "Wild Mike's," was recently given to all students for lunch and given a big thumbs up!  It is a new variety of pizza available to schools in the Midwest.  They even have a home version that is available at Walmart.  The school version has a whole grain crust with a cheesy bottom and uses low fat mozzarella cheese. Food service will continue testing items through April and May.   Taste testing will be done at the Middle School and High School as well.

Our Kids Club staff is busy planning a fantastic summer camp! The theme this summer is "A Kids Club Story" where we'll be discovering literature in exciting and creative ways. Our programs are offered to students who will be entering Kindergarten this fall through students who have completed 5th grade.  Check us out online or grab enrollment forms in any of our Kids Club rooms, school offices, or our Kids Club office at the Family Center in Lindstrom.  The deadline to register is May 13, 2016. We hope you'll join us!

Local Artist Linda Christianson Offers Students a Rare Opportunity
Local artist Linda Christianson visited Beth Carlson's Advanced Ceramic class back in January inspiring them to make some unique and original works of art, thinking outside of traditional ideas and techniques.  Linda then generously donated her clay to the class and students had the opportunity to fire their projects in her one-of-a-kind firing kiln at her studio in Lindstrom.  Using a wood firing kiln with a salt coating made the projects turn out far more unique than the students have ever done before.

"We are very lucky to have so many local artists that have an interest in what we are doing here at the high school.  I have been on the Minneosta Potters Tour for many years; it inspired me to offer the Advanced Ceramics course. Linda has always been supportive to the arts at the high school, and the local potters have been very generous helping us purchase items for our ceramics classes. It was a wonderful experience and the students were so excited to get their projects back," said Beth Carlson about the experience.
