The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER), the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, and SmartPower recently announced the results of their Fall 2015 Solarize Rhode Island campaign across the communities of Barrington, Foster, Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, and South Kingstown.  The successful 14-week program, which ended on February 15, resulted in 250 solar contracts being signed by local residents and businesses totaling more than 1,700 kW of new clean energy capacity.

"Community-based adoption of solar energy presents tangible energy, economic, and environmental benefits for Rhode Islanders and the cities and towns in which they live," said State Energy Commissioner Marion Gold. "Solarize Rhode Island is helping local residents and businesses reduce their net energy consumption from the grid, while supporting new investment and job growth opportunities for  our local clean energy economy."

Solarize Rhode Island seeks to increase the adoption of small-scale solar electricity in participating communities through a competitive tiered pricing structure that increases the savings for everyone as more homeowners sign contracts.  Now in its third year, Solarize Rhode Island has resulted in nearly 390 residents and business owners signing contracts for small-scale solar electricity systems, while educating hundreds more about the economic and environmental benefits of solar electricity, energy efficiency and other clean energy technologies.

Public Energy Meetings:
the Quadrennial Energy Review (QER) & DOE's Grid Modernization Initiative (GMI)

The Quadrennial Energy Review Task Force will hold a public stakeholder meeting April 15 at 9:30 a.m. at the Marriott Long Wharf, Salons DEFL. The Marriott Long Wharf is located at 296 State Street, Boston, Massachusetts. Doors open at 9:00 am.

The purpose of the meeting is to solicit stakeholder input for the second installment of the Quadrennial Energy Review (QER), which will be an integrated study of the electricity system from generation to end-use. The meeting will feature remarks by government officials, moderated panel discussions from a diverse group of energy policy experts from the private and public sector, and an opportunity for you to provide comments during an open microphone session. For more information please  click here.

Prior to the QER meeting, the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Northeast Region Grid Modernization Initiative workshop will take place at the same location on April 13-14. The Department is seeking your feedback on DOE's grid related research and demonstration strategy, as well as input on the grid-related technical challenges associated with emerging policy issues in New England and the nation as a whole. To register for the Grid Modernization workshop April 13-14, or for more information,  click here (you do not need to register for the April 15 QER meeting).
