AMELIA ISLAND CONCOURS d'ELEGANCE
HONORS THE RACERS OF FORMULA MESSERSCHMITT

The brave racers of Formula Messerschmitt will have a special place of honor on the field of the 22nd annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in 2017.

Oberammergauring, 1974: Baron Otto von Greetgugleemuglee hurtles through the circuit's legendary scareekurve pursued by his arch rival Gunther Unter-Steerenbaadlee auf Ulm contesting the record-setting non-championship Kleine Prix von Strudelhaven.  Image stolen* shamelessly off interweb by cheesy PR guy.

The glorious name of Messerschmitt will return to Amelia after a four year hiatus when the surviving racers of Formula Messerschmitt waddle across the 10th and 18th fairways of the Golf Club at Amelia Island on either March 11th or 12th, 2017.

A full grid/class of eight Tg500 Tiger Kompetizion Mono-Bubbles from the former Messerschmittautoundkleinerfhartwerks AGLSMFT at Augsburg will recall the glorious days when Formula Messerschmitt competitors from all around Augsburg battled in thrilling 13 minute races that began with a "scramble" version of the fabled Le Mans Start as the racing pilots ran to their Messerschmitts and rolled into battle as the support series for the now defunct People's International Trabant Cup.

"It could be exciting," said Bill Warner, Chairman and founder of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. "Then again . . ."

Aerodynamics and gravity played a key role in Tg500 Tiger performance. But the popular series came to an end when pace car performance outdistanced the physical and technological boundaries of the noble Tg500 and the sudden insolvency of series sponsor Strudel 'R Us.

"We were fortunate to be able to locate enough 'Tigers' to offer a look at a German marque that never really developed the sort of dedicated following we have come to expect from other high performance German machines," said Warner.
