Spring Book Sale
|
The Friends of the Sedona Library's spring book sale is just around the corner, with great deals on books, music CDs, movies, and more.
Mark your calendar for these dates:
- Preview night: Monday, April 25, 6:30 to 8 p.m. For Friends of the Library, invited guests, staff, and volunteers.
- Book sale: April 26 through 30, during regular library hours, plus Sunday, May 1, from noon to 4 p.m.

Financial Resources at the Library
|
With the tax deadline rapidly approaching, many Sedona residents have taken advantage of AARP's tax preparation service, which will be offered Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at the Library through April 16.
In addition to seasonal tax help, the Library provides year-round financial resources and services for both individuals and small businesses.

New Checkout Procedure-PINS Required
|
As an added security measure, beginning the week of April 18, you will be asked to enter the PIN number associated with your account at checkout.
Typically, your PIN is the last four digits of your phone number... but not always! If you are not sure what your PIN number is, our circulation staff will be pleased to provide you with that information.

Events at the Library

online events calendar to view the monthly schedule of programs at the Library, including these upcoming events:
- Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon: Library volunteers are invited to enjoy entertainment, food, and recognition for their hard work throughout the year at the appreciation luncheon on Sunday, April 3, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
- Youth Science Activities: Join us for an afternoon of fun science activities for kids of all ages on Tuesday, April 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the children's room. It's part of the Verde Valley SciTech Festival, a week of events being held across the valley that celebrate science, technology, engineering, art, and math. - Coffee with a Vet: On April 8, from 10 a.m. to noon in the community room, you can meet local veterans by attending Coffee with a Vet, a monthly event organized by the Veterans History Project. Everyone is welcome to participate and enjoy free coffee, cookies, and conversation with veterans.
- Blood Drive: Make a difference in our community by giving blood at the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the community room.
- iPad/iPhone Workshop: The Oak Creek Apples is offering the next session in its series of workshops focused on Apple's iPad and iPhone on Sunday, April 17, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the community room. Participants need to bring their own iPad/iPhone. Pre-registration is required for this free program, as space is limited. To register, e-mail [email protected].

Movies in April
|
Catch three great movies showing at the Library in April. Screenings are free and begin at 6 p.m. in the community room. Please note there will be no movie on April 25, book sale preview night.
- April 4: Coming Home, about a Chinese dissident who returns home after years in prison to find his wife does not remember him.

 April 11: The Big Short, set in the period before the housing and credit bubble of 2007, when a handful of financial outsiders saw the crash coming and bet against the big banks.
- April 18: Brooklyn, the story of a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn.

Library Events in the Village

- Arizona Humanities Program: Monday, April 11, Jay Cravath and Dan Shilling will present "The Ballad of Arizona: Our First 100 Years." The program begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 55 Rojo Drive, VOC. Please note: change of venue from Sedona Winds location. Funded by Arizona Humanities and the Sedona Friends of the Library, the program is free and open to the public. Donations are always welcome!

 Community Book Discussion: Participate in the book discussion of "The Emerald Mile," by Kevin Fedarko, on Tuesday, April 26, at 1:30 p.m. at Sedona Winds, 405 Jacks Canyon Road. Pick up your loaner copy at SPL-V. The book is also available as an e-book and audiobook. Please call the library if you need assistance with placing a hold.

Did You Know?

 You can get assistance using a computer, smart phone, or tablet with Tech Tutoring sessions at the Library.
These 30-minute, one-on-one personal tutoring sessions can cover anything from how to use a laptop or mobile device to more specific topics like Microsoft Word and basic Internet skills. Bring in your own device or receive tutoring on one of our public computers. Pick up a Tech Tutoring calendar from the reference desk and either call 928-282-7714 or come in to sign up for a session.
