Total Equity Now invites you and yours to celebrate and promote reading in Harlem by volunteering with our next . . .
#RockThoseReads Street Team - Community Service Project!
(35th Literacy Across Harlem Day)
Wednesday, July 1, 2015 -- 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Johnny Hartman Plaza (West 143rd Street & Amsterdam Avenue)
Literacy Across Harlem Day is a community-driven, first-day-of-each-month movement in which Total Equity Now and our partners encourage all Harlemites to #RockThoseReads--proudly and publicly carry a book or other reading materials in order to spark reading-related conversations and promote reading as a "Harlem thing."

#RockThoseReads Street Team - Community Service Projects
Each Literacy Across Harlem Day, Total Equity Now takes its all-volunteer #RockThoseReads Street Team to a new corner. For two hours, we:
- hand out lists of books about Harlem and information about Harlem's 10 public libraries;
- ask passersby to name their current and recommended "reads";
- encourage others to carry their reads outside of their bags in celebration of Literacy Across Harlem Day and our collective identity as a community of readers and writers!
The Brotherhood-Sister Sol's Hamilton Heights Green Youth Market
Why did we select 143rd St. and Amsterdam Ave. as our July 1st #RockThoseReads corner, you ask?
The Brotherhood/Sister Sol's Youth Market, run by members of Bro/Sis's Gaia Renaissance environmental group, kicks off its summer season there that day!
Stop by between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to join us in promoting reading, AND pick up farm-fresh fruits and veggies.
Hamilton Grange Library
In case you needed another great reason to stop by that afternoon, we'll also be joined by one of the wonderful librarians serving our community at the
Hamilton Grange Library, located at 503 West 145th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam.
Need a library card or know someone who does? Want to learn about HGL's upcoming public events and its summer reading program? Here's your chance!
