Notes from Sunday's Sermon
BY ELDER ADRIAN WILLIAMS of MORNING STAR CHSC, SACRAMENTO
"WHO DESERVES YOUR WORSHIP?" (Daniels 3:4-6):
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, were young men had gone through many trials and tribulation for the people of God. They are examples for Christians today to show us we cannot allow ourselves to be caught up in the affairs of this world. As I read the word of God, I learned that no matter how bad things got, they continued to worship God.
Nebuchadnezzar made a huge image as a national religious symbol, and demanded that all citizens, great and small, bow before it. He set up the image in open plain country where it could be seen from afar, then called all the leading officials from the country areas to a dedication ceremony. He gave instructions concerning the ritual to be followed in worshipping the image, and laid down the penalty for any who disobeyed.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego refused to obey. They had no doubt that if the sentence against them was carried out, God could save them if he chose to. Either way, they were determined not to worship the king's image and were prepared to accept the consequences.
When I praise God I am showing that I really think favorably of Him. I thank Him for things He's done for me or just for who He is. But when I worship I am telling God I adore You. Lord, I reverence You! I'm devoting my time, my life, and my body to You because of who You are. We not only need to remind people who Christ is, but that He also deserves our worship.
Worship is a "feeling of profound love and admiration." It is a "reverent honor and homage paid to God." The Greek definition simply means to, "bow down." My worship is a lot different from my praise. Praise means to "express favorable judgment of; or to commend." We praise a lot of things. But it was God who sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross to save me from my sins; and therefore, He is the only One who deserves my worship and my praise!
Sincerely in Christ,
Pastor Stephen King

A Mission-Driven Church
Our Mission...
The Memorial Tabernacle Church has come together by the Holy Spirit for the specific purpose of preaching and teaching the word of God, (the Bible), and about Jesus Christ, God's son, and to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom of God to the North Oakland Community and its environs; to bring healing to the brokenhearted and deliverance to the oppressed.
Our Foundation...
"And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more, as you see the day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24-25)
"Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God."
(Philippians 4:6)
" Let us therefore, receiving a kingdom that is firm and stable and cannot be shaken, offer to God pleasing service and acceptable worship, with modesty and pious care and godly fear and awe."
(Hebrews 12: 28)
