Her Majesty's Royal Opera Seeks a Few Good Men

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Juliana Gaul)
Her Majesty's Royal Opera is always looking for a few good men. At this point, we need a few chorus men... The requirements are (aside from singing in tune), being able to be at rehearsals during the run of workshops (usually 3-4:30 Saturday and Sunday) and the ability to learn about 6 short pieces of chorus music, some in English, some in Italian or French.  Dress requirements are a black tailcoat, nice vest, nice cravat, white shirt, black pants and black shoes.
A friendly note from your very own corsetieres at Dark Garden
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Autumn Adamme)

This has been an especially busy year for us, so now, more than ever, we need you to plan ahead if you need an existing corset repaired, or to pick up a new corset to be ready in time for workshops and.....Costume Approval!
Get repairs out of the way now - September through November are our busiest months and the repair wait can be up to 6 weeks - Bring your corsets in now for any tuning up they may need - or hand them off to us to bring to our trusted Dry Cleaner - just $25 for a good freshening up.

Ready-to-wear orders with no pattern changes are at a 4 week turn-around time, made-to-order is closer to 6 weeks, while Bespoke (some refer to this as full made-to-measure custom) is a consistent three months.

Please, please, don't ask us at workshops to do a full overhaul on your well-loved corset, the time will just be too tight to do it justice - and don't you want to know NOW if your corset has shrunk or grown over the year while you've not been keeping an eye on it? (wink, wink)

Above all, if you've never visited our year-round boutique in San Francisco, please do come by and visit!

Have an elegant time waltzing with Old New York's social elite at a Viennese Ball set in the world of Edith Wharton's "The Age of Innocence."

Bangers & Mash plays elegant rotary and Viennese waltzes, polkas, mazurka waltzes, a Grand March to end all grand marches, a Lancers Quadrille, and some lively American mixers and contradances just to reassert our American patriotism as well as our Continental sophistication! Bangers and Mash's chamber music arrangements of the great Viennese Waltzes of the Strauss family are divine to dance to and the band can play down-home American country dance music with the best of them! (All set dances and contras will be taught and called at the ball and there will be a pre-b all workshop at 7pm)

Evening dress from 1870's and 80's (either bustle or natural form fashions), evening dress from the dashing 1890s, or modern evening dress is admired, but not required. Elegant American "Old Money," brash and brazen "New Money," British and Continental aristocracy and gentry, and famous performing artists are all welcome at the ball. Even Pre-Raphaelite or Aesthetic dress is welcome, as Ellen, the beautiful American-born Countess Olenska, occasionally wears this strangely becoming style. For costume inspiration we suggest watching Martin Scorsese's gorgeous film version of "The Age of Innocence" and reading the sublimely readable original novel.

But watch your step. There is gossip everywhere. It's the unofficial Old New York competitive sport!

Our fashionable hosts, Julius and Regina Beaufort, have also arranged a half-time show for us: a short concert of light opera and musical show music by some of the finest performing artists of our day.

Tickets to this gala event are $20 in advance (by August 29); $25 at the door. To order advance tickets online, please see the ball website athttp://www.peersdance.org/innocence.html or simply PayPal the funds directly to [email protected] To order tickets by mail, please send a check or money order to PEERS at 2144 B Buena Vista Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501.

For more information, please see the ball website or email us at [email protected]
