We Love Reading at AccessHealth Spartanburg
We would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who has donated books for our office and library. We have collected over 250 books to date- and that does not count anonymous donations to the Little Free Library located outside of our office! The books have made an enormous impact on our community.

Because of the donations, we were able to create a children's book corner and a bookshelf library for both of our lobbies. Books are arranged and sorted by genre. Our clients rave about reading and having access to literature. Some even bring books of their own to contribute to our growing collection! The children of our clients love having books to read while they wait for their parent's appointments. Almost every child who comes into our office uses our book corner.

Thank you for inspiring a love of reading in our clients! If you are still interested in donating books, contact [email protected].

February Health Facts
February is the American Heart Month. According to the Center for Disease Control, uncontrolled high blood pressure is the leading cause of heart disease and stroke. High blood pressure is often asymptomatic, so it is important to talk to your doctor about controlling and monitoring your blood pressure. The following are a few ways to decrease your blood pressure:
  • Talk with your doctor about setting blood pressure goals.
  • Take blood pressure medicine as instructed.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Reduce sodium intake.
For more information about heart health, visit: CDC Heart Month.

February is also National Grapefruit Month. Studies have suggested that grapefruit "decreases the risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, while promoting a healthy complexion, increased energy, and overall lower weight." However, it is important to note that grapefruit consumption may interfere with certain medications. For more information on the health benefits of grapefruit, visit: Medical News Today.

beagle_puppy_closeup.jpg February 20th is Love Your Pet Day. Pets are more than just a member for the family! Research studies have found that "people who have a pet have healthier hearts, stay home sick less often, make fewer visits to the doctor, get more exercise, and are less depressed." Companion animals also lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, and decrease stress. If you do not have an animal at home, consider volunteering for the Spartanburg Humane Society . For more information about the health benefits of pet ownership, visit: The National Center for Health Research.
Donations

Please consider collecting plastic bags from grocery stores and shopping centers to donate to our office. We use the bags to distribute toiletries and paper products to our clients!
