The  Healthcare Systems Process Improvement Conference 2016 , (HSPI) offers many opportunities for attendees to advance themselves. The Texas Medical Center / Texas Children's Hospital

The Texas Medical Center is the world's largest medical complex. Since opening in 1945, TMC has been pioneering patient care, research, education, and prevention.This tour includes a driving tour of The Texas Medical Center and a walking tour of Texas Children's Hospital. Tours will be facilitated by Texas Children's leaders from Facilities Planning & Development and Business Process Transformation

University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center  
1:30 - 4:30 p.m.
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the world's most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer. As the largest freestanding cancer center in the world, MD Anderson has the latest equipment and facilities to support the endeavors of its faculty and staff in outpatient and inpatient care, research, prevention and education. During a two-hour walking tour of the MD Anderson main campus in the Texas Medical Center, you will learn the history of the institution, including the multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer pioneered at MD Anderson, as well as how the institution continues to evolve in pursuit of our mission of Making Cancer History®.

Volunteer Opportunities  for Students at HSPIC

Interested students: Volunteer your time in exchange for a discounted conference registration. The time can be prior to the conference (e.g., kit stuffing and/or setting up registration) or during the conference (e.g., registration, room hosts, etc.). There are a limited number of slots available, so this opportunity will be offered to volunteers on a first-come, first-serve basis. Early Career/Young  Professional's Corner
 
Being new to an industry can feel as daunting as being the new kid in school. Especially when it comes to healthcare, you're jumping into a world of new processes, rules and regulations, and an entirely new culture. 

The Society for Health Systems' Early Career/Young Professionals Committee is designed to help newer healthcare improvement professionals network with others in the industry and excel through the beginning years of their new career. There is no better place to do that than at the upcoming 2016 Healthcare Systems Process Improvement Conference! In Houston we will be providing networking opportunities and engaging presentation sessions geared towards early career/young professionals. When you register for conference you can also sign up for our mentorship program where early career professionals will be paired with seasoned experts in the industry. Join us at conference in February, and strengthen your journey of continuous healthcare improvement!  

SHS Early Career/Young Professionals Member Highlight
This month's SHS EC/YP Highlight is Ajay Jayakumar. Ajay is a Value Analyst at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He is a PhD candidate in Industrial Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he graduated with a Masters in Manufacturing Systems Engineering and a Masters in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Ajay is a wonderful addition to our Early Career/Young Professionals Committee because he is looking to grow and learn from his experience working with the group as well as network with a diverse array of individuals. Ajay is family-oriented, and in his spare time enjoys traveling, tennis, and exploring new cuisines.

How a theme-park design can benefit hospitals 
Not many people think of a hospital visit as a good time for the whole family, yet one designer says that healthcare organizations can improve patient experiences if they operate more like theme parks, according to an opinion piece for Fast Company Design. Hospitals can use technology to create an immersive environment rather than more traditional, but less interesting, design principles, writes Nick de la Mare, a theme park experience designer and co-founder of design firm Big Tomorrow.
