Saturday, February 27, 1PM
Dana Owen, a former Police Officer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, wrote a true-crime book telling his own story of how he pursued a hijacked United States Postal truck, with a hostage inside. During the chase, he was shot in the head twice, but lived to investigate his own shooting and write Shotgunned. Rowley Book Club to meet Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m.
The Rowley Book Club is currently reading Elephant Company by Vicki Croke. Billy Williams moved to Burma after WWI to work for a British teak company. As he became skilled working with the elephants that did the heavy lifting in the jungles, he became a champion of more humane treatment of these magnificent animals. But when WWII began, Williams and his elephants worked behind enemy lines to help defeat the Japanese, culminating in a daring escape over the mountains and earning him top military honors. Whether you like biographies, war epics, or animal adventures, this book has it all. Click here to reserve your copy, or pick one up at the library, so pick one up today, then join us for a discussion on Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. April's title will be Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
Photography display in February at Rowley Public Library

Our featured artists this month are the students at Parker River Preschool. The photos on display are of children and the wonders they find on their forest walks. Many of the photos were taken by the kids themselves, and some include stories written by the children based on what they discovered. Students range from two to six years old.

As the Rowley Public Library celebrates the quasquicentennial (125th) anniversary of its founding in 1891, we'll be looking both forwards and backwards in time. Wells' classic, (he coined the term "time-travel!") first published in 1895, will be our Rowley Reads selection. It is available as a free audiobook or ebook download from Project Gutenberg. If you'd like to help the Rowley Reads team start planning for this exciting project call Library Director Pam Jacobson at 978-948-2850 or email [email protected].
