Namaste,

Celebrate diversity!  How amazing to have so many different religions, nationalities, races, and sexual orientations in our world.  It enriches us and makes for a far more colorful planet.  This month's theme, diversity, is what  Kashi embraces fully.  Ma would often say that coming to Kashi was a vacation from hate.  She taught us that like the sun, love does not discriminate but gives to all.

"There is great beauty in diversity."

Guru Purnima

2015

As the moon becomes full and the rains fall, we are immersed in this season of Guru Purnima.

It is the time of the year we honor the Guru. This link of love becomes available as we touch her feet, which symbolize the direct connection to divinity.

Please join us this July 18th to honor our Guru, Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati, and during this celebration, feel the beauty of knowing she is with us always.

"When all of a sudden you feel such gratitude your heart opens, it is there that grace becomes available."

Ma Jaya

May we receive fulfillment from the dust of her lotus feet as it enters into our hearts and we become a reflection of her light and love.

A Remembrance of MA
Bina and Ma
Diversity

The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect.  It means
understanding that each individual is unique. Diversity recognizes
our individual differences.   Ma has showed us acceptance of all and encouraged us to serve and give of ourselves.  Ma embraced everyone.  She would say, "feed everyone, there are no throwaway people." Her ashrams are a haven for all and our home a place to share with everyone.  How blessed we were to share and meet with beautiful people in county homes, city streets, Under the Bridges, hospice homes and Buyer's Club in San Francisco. Ma's love  of people who are gay, lesbian and transsexuals and anyone in between was truly profound.

She is the mother to all;  we walk in her footsteps to do the same.

Namaste,
Love,
Bina

Some Thoughts From Shiva Devi

Shiva Devi
Look around you...We are awash in an immense diversity! A diversity of space, geology, of life forms, of ideas and spiritual beliefs. Is there a grand meaning here, a planetary or celestial plan at work?
There is a principle in the physical sciences called entropy. It is the tendency for organized systems to lose energy and run down.
I believe God loves wondrous variety because it is through this diversity that she ensures that entropy is thwarted. It is the engine that fuels change and guarantees that the beautiful tapestry of being will continue.
Of course it is through the lens' of our hearts that we decide how to embrace this gift.
I was born into diversity by virtue of my Transgender soul. It has been a long and often difficult road.  But now this road has led us to Blessed Kashi Ashram, where celebrating diversity is the norm, and love, kindness and service are the rule!  I have come to believe what my beautiful sister Sunanda has often told me - Ma has brought us here!

In Memoriam

It is with deepest sadness that we share the news of Kabir's (Dr. Jeremy Geffen's) passing.  His wonderful and kind spirit will be remembered always.  He met Ma in the early 70's at Mount Manressa in Staten Island, NY. He and Ma had a very deep and profound relationship.  His years living at Kashi have left a very memorable place in our hearts. We still love to hear him singing his songs to the Ganga and Hanuman.  Kabir went to school to become an oncologist and set up a practice in Vero Beach.  His dedication and care have helped many people.  His book, A Journey Through Cancer, was very well received and has become a guide for people battling this illness.  He will be greatly missed.

      A Moment From Ma

"Every human being lives with the undiscovered space of the heart waiting to be discovered. Through compassion and loving service, the soul is reflected in the eyes of all whom you come across.  We all have magic within us, and the magic of the Mother is the giving nature which we all possess. Diversity brings forth beauty, love and equality."

Love, MA

From Rudra's Kitchen

Namaste,

This month we have two recipes: Kim-Chi and Asian Kale & Brussels Sprouts Salad.

I first learned about Kim-Chi because of Tae Kwon Do, A Korean Martial Art.

Ma started Tae Kwon Do in the end of 1979, and soon after asked me if I wanted to try it...

The Golden Thread of Satsang: A Kashi Community Fundraising Celebration

Join us in a joyful celebration of the bhakti essence of our lineage and ashrams. The Kashi Ashrams are coming together to host a heart-filled community gathering. Honoring the lineage of Ma Jaya, please join the swamis, monks and long-time residents of the Kashi Florida Ashram who will be coming to celebrate Ma's Kashi Atlanta and raise money for our ashrams.

Friday night we will host a Fire Puja, led by Swami Bhagavati Das, the Head Pujari of Kashi Ashram. A Fire Puja is an ancient Vedic ritual done to burn away that which we do not need and to ignite the fire of truth within us. The fire ceremony will be followed by an informal community gathering, where Yashoda will open a Silent Auction. Then we will hang out, have chai and enjoy an array of dessert prasad, which is food that has been specially blessed.

Saturday we will do yoga, Yashoda and others will address the community and we will hear Ma speak. We will provide a luscious Middle Eastern lunch. Then, we reconvene for a Swami Panel Discussion and Q&A on the sacred essence of satsang. We will close the day with an informal hang-out at Atlanta's Ashram houses with, of course, more prasad and entertainment. Please join us in this Kashi community celebration of our lineage and our hearts.

Guru Purnima Weekend

Guru Purnima 2015

The Guru - meaning dispeller of darkness - is traditionally celebrated at the full moon in June or July.  At this time, the feet of the Guru are celebrated as they represent where Guru took human form to bring blessings to the earth.  This day is particularly joyful and full of gratitude and bhakti (devotion).

Everyone is invited to help with the extensive preparation and decoration that it takes to transform the Dattatreya Temple into a jungle during the day on Saturday.  Although Ma Jaya is not present in her body, we will continue the ritual of honoring the Guru's feet with an ancient ceremony performed with a stone representation of her feet.

Friday July 17 5:00 pm EDT to Sunday July 19th 10:00 am EDT

June's Joke

A man who was just married was flying to the Florida Keys for a business trip.  His new bride was to accompany him the next day.  When he got there he emailed his wife to let her know he made it there safely.

When he sent the email he mistakenly typed the wrong  address.   A grieving widow in Boston,, whose husband had recently passed away, receives the email.  She reads it, screams, and faints.

Hearing her grandmother's cry, the widow's 18 year old granddaughter runs into the living room to see the computer on with a message.  It reads:

Dear Love,

Just got here.  Preparing for your arrival tomorrow.  Can't wait to see you.

Love, Your Husband

PS. Sure is hot down here!
