Carrying Your Weight

We all know that most pictures we see in the media are computer-generated bodies that are impossible for 95 percent of women to achieve. So why are we still comparing ourselves to these unrealistic stereotypes? Maybe we just need new glasses. In this hands-on workshop you’ll create a new image of how you see yourself to help you reframe and refocus the lens of how you look at your body and learn to feel comfortable in your own size.

Micala is a Wichita native. She studied painting and sculpture at the University of Kansas. After leaving Lawrence, Kansas she moved back home to Wichita and worked with Youthville for 10 years, as founder and director of Youthville’s Expressive Arts Center. During that time she met weekly with inmates at Hutchinson Prison making art with them and started the Chalk Art Festival event and fundraiser. Currently she is working with elders, bringing her creative energy into their scope. Micala enjoys being with her wickedly talented friends, being a  closet comedian, hanging out with Zack her brilliant partner in crime, eating sushi, and overthrowing the state all while drawing, knitting, making art and what not’s with her amazing kiddo Basil and doing whatever she wants really. She specializes in knowing how not to get her ass kicked in prickly situations, leading folks in finding deeper connection with their art and each other and creatively swindling a space for those needing a louder voice.

Classes are $30 each and include a workbook, badge and shop local goodie bag.

Doors open 15 minutes before class begins.

Tickets are nonrefundable; however they are transferable to someone else if you can't make it to class.
