Ernestina-Morrissey will be featured in the April 7 lecture of the New Bedford Whaling Museum's 2016 Sailors' Series "A Century of Design & Invention".

"The Rebirth of the Ernestina-Morrissey"

Chester Brigham, author of "Phoenix of the Seas" will recount the journeys and travails of the Ernestina-Morrissey , State Ship of Massachusetts. Mr. Brigham has written an engaging account of the many "lives" of the ship. You will enjoy his presentation. "Phoenix of the Seas" will be available for sale that night at the Whaling Museum.

Following the discussion of her history, Master Shipwright David Short, Project Manager for Boothbay Harbor Shipyard and Captain Harold Burnham, DCR's Owner's Representative, will provide insights into the restoration project ongoing in Maine as the ship is prepared to write the next chapter in her amazing life.

As the New Year begins, the dismantling of Ernestina-Morrissey continues but in the sheds the new construction begins!

What's Old is New Again

As the Effie M. Morrissey, then the Ernestina and now Ernestina-Morrissey has changed from one mission to another,the ship was adapted to these new missions. From fishing, to Arctic service to packet ship to educator the ship was changed. Ernestina-Morrissey has needed many refits over her 122 years of constant hard use. The good news is that she is now being prepared for her next Phoenix-like reincarnation. There will be changes to better prepare the ship for her future and to ensure all Coast Guard requirements will be met to allow the certifications she will need.
