NORTHWESTERN ASTROPHYSICISTS PART OF HISTORIC DISCOVERY
Northwestern scientist Vicky Kalogera, E. O. Haven Professor of Physics & Astronomy and Director, Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA), absolutely could not believe it. Data has revealed that gravitational waves -- ripples in the fabric of spacetime first predicted by Albert Einstein in 1916 -- have been detected for the first time by an international scientific team to which she belongs. Even Einstein didn't think such a discovery would ever happen.

JANET FOUTTY FEATURED
Janet Foutty is the first female CEO of Deloitte's consulting arm, Deloitte Consulting, which offers guidance for business strategy, operations, technology and human capital. Biz Journal spoke with Janet about her first job, drink in the morning, workplace mistake and more.

"I'm so intense in my client situations and on my family, that I probably under-invested in keeping relationships current and fresh that weren't right in front of me. I've always thought of myself as having very good relationship-building skills, but I wish early in my career I had sown more of the seeds that I had planted in terms of developing longer-term relationships."

Janet goes on to mention that her first mentor was Kathryn Hayley. "My first mentor was an amazing woman who I'm still close to to this day. We talk a lot about mentors and sponsors, and I think she was both a great mentor in terms of helping me think about my career, but also a great sponsor in terms of putting her political capital on the line to help me."
