Rep. Reynolds brings first-hand knowledge,
clarity and information to supporters regarding
the facts surrounding the Chasewood Subdivision
water quality matter during a campaign reception
held on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Chasewood Clubhouse.

(Feb. 11, 2015) -- Today, State Rep. Ron Reynolds (D - Missouri City HD 27) issued the following official statement in regards to the Chasewood Subdivision water quality matter.
"I have and will always fight for my constituents," said Rep. Reynolds. "As the longest serving member of the Environmental Regulation Committee, the water quality concern in Chasewood has been a top priority for me since I was first elected in November 2010 and sworn into office in January 2011. I am outraged and deeply saddened by the Flint, Mich. water contamination crisis, and I have and will always fight to make sure this kind of crisis does not happen in Texas."
At the onset of the Missouri City, TX Chasewood community water quality matter, Rep. Reynolds held a town hall to decisively address the concerns brought to his attention by constituent and Chasewood resident Carl David Evans. The meeting, held on June 21, 2011 at the Chasewood Clubhouse, was Rep. Reynolds' first town hall meeting as the newly elected State Representative.
At Rep. Reynolds' request, four employees from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) attended the meeting to answer questions of the Chasewood residents. The employees representing TCEQ were from the Water Supply Division, Waste Permits, Houston Regional Staff and IGR staff.
Additionally, Rep. Reynolds contacted the offices of then City of Houston Mayor Annise Parker and invited the Mayor to also attend the town hall meeting. Following the meeting and at the request of Rep. Reynolds, an additional follow-up investigation was conducted by the TCEQ, even though the water had been previously tested several times. The study revealed no odor was present and that the water was being properly maintained.
Although no additional formal complaints had been filed with the TECQ since the summer of 2011, Rep. Reynolds held a second, follow-up town hall meeting on March 12, 2015, at the Chasewood Clubhouse. TCEQ employees from the Houston regional office and the Landfills Division were in attendance to answer questions and address concerns regarding odors in the air and high cancer rates that were reported by the Chasewood residents.
The City of Houston turned off the three wells in question in November 2010. The facility storage tanks were deactivated in 2012 and will never be used again. Since 2011, the Chasewood neighborhood has been supplied with 100 percent surface water from the Trinity River that is treated at the East Water Purification Plant and re-pumped through the Sims Bayou facility.
As with this concern, and any other issues in District 27, Rep. Reynolds will immediately address the concerns of his constituents, and follow up until there is a satisfactory resolution.
State Representative Ron Reynolds represents Texas House District 27, which encompasses communities of Fort Bend County. Representative Reynolds currently serves as the Democratic Whip of the Texas House Democratic Caucus and a member of the House Committees on Elections, and Environmental Regulations. Rep. Reynolds is seeking his fourth term in the Texas House of Representatives. During his first legislative session, he was voted by his House colleagues as "Freshman Legislator of the Year" and "Public Servant of the Year" by the Houston Minority Contractors Association.
